Babies: 0 - 3 Months

almost 2 week old's sleep and awake times?

When we brought LO home last week she pretty much would eat and fall right to sleep afterwards...now at almost 2 weeks old (on tuesday) she seems to have changed things up but I feel like she's still so young. She's now been eating her bottle and is wide awake for anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour before falling asleep.  Like today she had her last bottle at 4:30 pm and was awake until around 5:30...it's now almost 8:30 and she's still out cold making it almost 4 hours from when she last ate.  Luckily she's been going back to sleep after night feedings which is good.

I know I should just go by her schedule at this point but is anyone elses LO having a lot of wake time at this early of an age?  She's not fussing so I know she's not hungry or anything but I feel like her schedule is all over the place now....am I ok to wait until she wakes to feed her or should I wake her? Right now it's been 4 hours since her last feeding and 3 hours since she fell asleep.

TIA

Re: almost 2 week old's sleep and awake times?

  • P is a very awake baby as well. Other than at night, she usually is up for 2 feedings and then sleeps. As in she will be up at 6am, nurse, then will be awake until 8am when she is calling to feed again, then she sleeps. And that's how the day has been going recently. As far as waking your LO up, I was told, once they pass their birth weight you don't need to wake them.

  • My little guy is very awake as well. He seems very alert for about 45 min after he eats. He goes into his crib for a morning nap and an afternoon nap, but other than that he just likes short cat naps during the day. I don't let him sleep for any more than an hour and a half at a stretch during the day though. After that long I'll wake him up to feed him. At night I just let him go for as long as he will. When he wakes up at night I'll change him, feed him and put him right back down and he's pretty good at drifting right back off.

  • Our little one is now 3 weeks old, but has had a similar pattern. She will feed about every 4 hours, and occasionally will stay up for anywhere from an hour to -4 hours.

We try and hope she does a long awake period during the day so that way in the middle of the night she takes her bottle and goes right back to bed.

  • My son is now over 2 months old and he still has funny days. Sometimes he sleeps a lot, other times I can't get him to nap very much at all. As long as your daughter is back to her birth weight, let her sleep.

  • I'm having the same issues with my LO.  He's 10 days old, and he's starting to change his sleep patterns.  He used to eat then sleep for a good 2-3 solid hours.  Now he eats, will stay awake or close his eyes and grunt and move around a lot before he falls asleep.  It's especially bad at night!
  • S is 2 weeks old, I woke him up at 7 to eat and he snoozed off and on until he was done. Its now 8:30 and hes still awake.
