A friend just gave birth. She Facebooked during the entire thing, including telling us that she's 9 cm and the baby is about to come. She wasn't waiting for a c/s or totally drugged up and waiting for a slow labor. She was in very active labor.
Am I the only one who thinks we're all a bit addicted to our computers at times? As addicted as I am, I was no where near interested in telling the world I am 1 cm away from pushing a kid out.
Re: Is it me or is it weird to FB during active labor?
I texted people when I was at 10 cm (I was in no pain as I had gotten my epidural late and ended up at 10 cm right after, so we had to wait a bit for the pushing). Some of my friends laughed at me, but they were all happy for the updates.
I guess it depends on how you're feeling at the time!
Well, I had a pretty easy labor, and during the wait I checked work emails and skyped with my mom and friends.
Yes, I am VERY addicted!
I had DH send texts to certain really close friends and our family who spread the word. since the babies were born during the swine flu craziness i didnt want anybody near the babies so keeping people happy and updated helped.
But i know DH sent a text saying we were on our way to the hospital... then again the next morning saying they were starting pitocin... then after my awful epidural gone wrong saying labor was majorly slowed... and then when doc said i would be pushing in a few min.... then on the trip to the OR when i ended up in a c-section and finally after we were in recovery. That may seem like a lot but considering how many hours all of that took it really wasnt a lot. And he used my phone so texts take 3 seconds to send especially when its only a few words.
It kept everyone happy and calmly away! hahaha
This was me too. I think I even sent someone a message that said, "I'm about to push, I'll call you when she's born." - or something a long those lines.. LOL
That is SO weird. Even after I got my epi, I just felt awful. I was always so hot and sick.
It seems like there are more important things -- like admiring your new baby!
I was texting while I was in labour.. but I think my last text before birth was that my water had been broken.. and that was about 2.5 hrs before she was born! After she was born, though, I was texting like crazy to give people details. I didn't post a FB update until either late that night (she was born at 10:25pm), or the next day at some point.
I think I would've broken my phone if I was trying to text through contractions.. those things hurt like hell, and I wasn't on any pain meds.
it never crossed my mind to update facebook, but my labor was less than 4 hours, start to finish so i didnt really have time to consider updating.
i really wouldnt want labor updates...i dunno, stuff like that is personal and i dont care to read about it unless we're best friends.
You mean like this:
is up timing contractions...7 mins apart for an hour and a half....hope they slow down and Jacob waits until the 5th!January 2, 2010 at 2:38am ?
Jacob is coming today, admitted to L&Djacob is here, 6 lb 5oz, he came at 11:17

GUILTY!
lol, I have a friend that did the same thing. Yes it's weird as I think there are better things to worry about.
I have to admit that I was posting pics within about 4 or 5 hours after giving birth
My hospital wasn't wired for wi-fi (then, it is now), nor did they allow cell phones on the maternity ward. So, I was totally tuned out until we got home.
DH did call my parents with periodic updates when I was in labour, but he had to leave the room (b/c of the no cell phone policy) and go down the hall to the waiting room to use his phone.
