What can I do to try to make my sick son more comfortable?

This morning he was incredibly cranky and felt a bit warm so I checked his temp and it was 102.3. I gave him Tyelnol about 2 hours ago and 30 minutes ago it was 101.7. His appetite is ok. He's drinking milk and water just fine and although he's picking at his food, he's eating a bit.

But he's still irratible, whining and wimpering alot, poor thing. I've tried cuddling with hi and holding him while rubbing his back and he'll stay that way for  few seconds but then want down. I feel so helpess! What else can I do to try to make him more comfortable?

  • My LO likes a bath. Very calming and the steam can be good for breaking up mucus.

  • Are there any other symptoms? Just fever and not wanting to eat (but drinking ok) could be anything from teething to a virus to strep throat. Feel around on the inside of the mouth and keep an eye on the fever, but sounds like you should plan on a trip to the doc just to make sure there isn't anything else at work.

Otherwise, do whatever you can to make LO happy...baths and a cool mist humidifier (just in case), playing with favorite toys, and (heaven forbid) maybe an extra episode of Sesame Street or a favorite DVD for comfort.
