What to use instead of dryer sheets?

I know you're not suppose to use dryer sheets and we haven't been but DH is getting really annoyed with all the static. So anyone know of anything that works?

  • Wool dryer balls. You can make them or buy them.

I bought some and have been using them for about a week and they haven't helped with static.

  • overdrying can also lead to static problems.  I also use vinegar as a fabric softener in the wash and that helps a bit with static.    So, no overdrying, vinegar in the wash, and dryer balls is what I do to combat static.   For his job, DH absolutely cannot have static on his clothes - it's a major hazard at the workplace.

How much vinegar do you use? Do you just fill up to the little line in the fabric softener slot?

I just fill to the line on the fabric softener slot!    Easy peasy.    I hope it works for you!!

How many have you been using? I haven't had any experience yet, but I read you really need a good number (4-6 good sized ones) to really cut down on the static.

I was using 4 but then upped it to 6. I'll keep trying and hopefully it'll work!

  • Static is usually caused by overdrying and synthetic materials. Try taking your clothes out ASAP rather than letting them stay in the dryer longer than needed. Also, do not dry synthetic fabrics with natural ones. That will at least help the naturals be static-free.
