? About Assisted Walking Toys...

We got Liam the FP Stride-N-Ride Dino for Christmas since he has been pulling to standing and attempting to cruise the furniture lately.

Well, he is not such a big fan of it.  I think it's because it's not sturdy enough for him to feel comfortable using it to stabilize himself.  We try to help but he just whimpers the whole time like he's worried he's going to fall and then he tried his darndest to sit down on the ground instead of standing, haha.

When did your child really "get it" as far as the walkers go?

Re: ? About Assisted Walking Toys...

  • Truthfully? Preston used the laundry basket (upside down) to push around. He did have a walking toy, but didn't use that until much later.

  • Liam didn't really use his "walking toy" until he could take 2-3 unassisted steps... It takes a lot of balance to use one of them because they're so light weight. Just leave it out as an option for your DS. He'll get the hang of it.

My LIam started using his a lot around 10 months.

  • DD's a mad women with hers. She pushes it all over and runs over our feet. Slams it into stuff. I'm a nervous wreck when she uses it..lol

  • DS loves his!  It took him less than a week to figure out how to turn it when he hits something to get unstuck.

  • DD has 2 different walking toys and doesn't use either one of them to assist with walking.  She's very independent though and would rather walk without any assistance.  She doesn't even like it when we hold her hands to try and help her.  If we hold her hands to try and help she falls to the floor like a wet noodle.

  • Our little guy is right at the same age as yours, and he loves his.  BUT I hold onto him the whole time.  We started with with the hippo actually a month and a half ago or so, just letting him try to push it forward standing up while I held onto him.  Now he loves to push his hippo and his dino around.

Have you tried to let him ride it around yet?  Maybe he will get more used to it that way.
