NTR: Thinking about going dark...

Any blondes ever go darker?  I'm fairly light naturally, but I prefer to be platinum.  However, I have well water, so 2 weeks after I spend $100 on highlights, my hair is dirty blonde again.  I've never been a brunette before, and I'm not sure how it would look.  Thoughts?

  • I have been every color you can imagine and I am naturally a dirty blonde. I think you can do dark but it has to be done right. Some people look good with blue undertones and some look better with warm/red undertones. I would recommend sitting and talking about it with a hairdresser you trust. GL!

  • I'm naturally a dirty blonde color and have gone dark a few times. The only bad part is how pale I tend to look, but a little bronzer tends to do the trick!

  • I say go for it.  However if you are nervous, dark highlights are always a way to ease into the new look.

I am naturally a dirty blonde, and went brunette in HS, I even went Auburn one time and it was pretty too.

  • I think dark would look good and it seems based on your skin tone you should do a red undertone, or warm base. Also, since your nervous they can do a wash out color at first to make sure you like it before commiting.

I love your cut/color right now, but I bet a darker shade with red (not blue) undertones would look great!

  • I'm naturally a dark blonde and used to get highlights done. About 8 months ago I went a light ash brown. I liked it...but have been thinking of going lighter again.  I'm fair skinned with pink undertones too.

Def. try a wash out colour before commiting.

Thanks!  I have an awesome hair stylist.  I think I'll talk to her about it at my next appointment.  Change is always good!

  • You could definitely do something dark with red undertones.  I say go for it!  But then I love changing up the colour of my hair :)

  • I have been super blonde and then super dark. It will probably take a couple times at the salon to get the color desired. I think you would look great being a shade darker! GL!
