I also posted this on the 0-3 month board.
Does anyone have hard wood floors in their home in the main living areas? If so, what are your thoughts about when your LO is able to start crawling?
We live in a townhouse and have hard wood (actually high quality laminate) downstairs. We have one rug in the center of the LR, but it's just slightly bigger than our large coffee table and so the rest area (LR and entryway hallway) is not covered by any rugs.
We installed the hard wood floor 3 years ago, but now I am actually starting to miss the coziness of carpet. We have carpet upstairs, but I am not sure if I will want to carry LO upstairs every time for most of the daytime activity period just so that he can crawl.
I am trying to decide if we should bite the bullet and install carpet in our living room so that DS can learn how to crawl comfortably. We are downstairs about 95% of the day.
What are your thoughts on hardwoods/carpet and crawling?
Re: XP: Hard wood floors and crawling
You want to spend thousands of dollars to install carpet, so your LO can crawl comfortably for a couple months before he learns to walk?
We have hardwoods and LO is fine. He wears pants most of the time, since it is winter, and we have a couple large area rugs that are his main play space.

THIS! I don't mean can to offend, but this is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Why can't he just crawl on the floor? Just keep him in pants so it's easier on his knees.

Thanks ladies. I was reminded on another board about those kid play mats that I can use if I am concerned for his knees at all.
But you're right....maybe he'll start walking sooner too. :-) My mom said that I barely crawled and started pulling myself up and walking very early.

I agree with the other posts about not worrying about the floors; however you asked for advice, so mine is to keep your floors as they are and buy some leggings for your LO to wear if he isn't in pants. I found some at zulily.com that were 1/2 off, but you can find them at https://www.babylegs.com/ also.
GL and I am scared too about the floors and my LO's but they are fine, and the sound is worse than the bump of the head with laminate b/c of the material and the underpad. Sometimes, I cringe when I hear their head hit the floor when they roll over, but it doesn't even phase them.

i was worried at first too when kylie started crawling because our ENTIRE downstairs is hardwood or ceramic and we have NO area rugs. so we went out and paid 25$ at toys r us and got one of those rubber puzzle piece floor mats and put it in our living room. thats where we put all of her toys.
she struggled at first because she would slide on the floor. but after like 2 or 3 days she was a pro. she now follows me everywhere no matter what the floor is like! LO will be fine!
I have hardwoods. Ds is fine. He doesn't even notice that it's hard. He'll be fine.
