I'm hoping to make purees when we start in a few weeks. What did you really need? We have a steamer and a food processor, so I wasn't planning on getting a baby food maker. What kind of storage containers did you like? Did you need a food mill? Did you get a cookbook or just get recipes online? I'm assuming they are fairly simple.
Is there anything else you found helpful? TIA!

Re: Making baby food..
www.wholesomebabyfood.com is an awesome resource.
We just freeze stuff in ice cube trays after pureeing in the food processor. Works great!
You definitely do NOT have to buy fancy baby food makers and storage thingys...I just use my blender and food processor, as well as ice cube trays, freezer bags (for larger quantities) and tupperware containers.
Good luck, and have fun!
Love that site as well!
The when I made baby food for DD, someone had given me their Beaba Babycook and that made learning how to make baby food SO easy and fun. I have since given it to someone else and this time I will steam and use my knockoff Magic Bullet to blend. I used Baby Cubes for storage (I got them at One Step Ahead but can't find them anymore-you can find them on a bunch of places if you google it!) ...they are very durable and can definitely be used on multiple kiddos (bought for DD and they are still in great condition for the babies)
Have fun! I swear DD LOVES vegetables as much as she does because of making her baby food. We saved SO MUCH money too!
Yep, all I use are a steamer basket and a food processor. I just steam the food until it's soft and then puree it with some of the cooking liquid. Then I pour it into ice cube trays. Once it's frozen, I run hot water on the back of the ice cube tray and pop the cubes into zip lock bags.
One thing... the first time I made any baby food, I added plenty of water to make sure it was pureed well enough. That was a mistake because when I froze it and thawed it, it was too runny. I had to thicken everything with cereal. The next time, I used as little water as possible and that was MUCH better. If things ended up a little too thick, I could always thin it out with a little water/formula/breast milk. HTH!
