Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How / where do you bathe your baby?

I had one of those typical plastic baby tubs but he outgrew it by 2.5 months so I've been using the regular bathtub. It's tricky now that he's more movey and kicky, because here I am all crimped over the side bustin my back, holding his neck/head with my right hand trying to keep his face from getting in the water and trying to clean him with my left hand, all the while he's looking around splashing and trying to grab the little pitcher I use to rinse him with.

There has GOT to be a better way to do this, and I'm just not thinking of it.

  • You should get one of those ramp things, it looks kinda like a recliner. Right now im bathing DS in the infant tub in the sink, but he's getting too big for it. i may buy one of those ring things they sit in, He already sits pretty well

  • We have a bigger "blowup" baby tub and it's perfect! At first we also used a bath sling in it to keep LO's face from getting in the water but she outgrew it way too fast and it was more of a burden with all of her moving & sliding down it than it was a help.

I did the "bath juggle" as you explained up until about 3 1/2 months, then LO started to really catch onto sitting up and preferred it. Now at 5 months she sits totally unassisted so bath time in much easier. I have both hands to use now even when she is splashing away. If she slips a little I just have to give her a little "boost" back into position but no problems yet..

Sometimes we take her right in the shower with us too. DH and I need to tag team for this though because she's a slipepry little thing. I have taken a tub bath with her as well and that worked out because I was right at her level, no back pain for me!

    It DOES get better!

  • Hmmm... Walt isn't quite sitting on his own yet. Hopefully he'll get there soon!
I can see that would help quite a bit though, so you don't have to be on such high alert that they don't faceplant in the water.

Maybe I'll find a bath thing to stick him in for now to elevate him...

  • Right now we use the infant tub that has a sling in it but we're going to switch to a reclining infant seat. It's mesh, they sell them at Walmart for around $17 I believe. Kinda like this but like I said ours is mesh-

So is my DS.  IMO, it's not like a bassinet or crib where you put them down and walkaway.  I mean, especially in the bath - you are RIGHT there.  And I seriously doubt the thing will just fall apart under his weight.

But if you're not comfortable with that, i would suggest getting one of the ring seats and stuffing a big towel behind his back to help him sit up.  What you are doing is not necessary...there are plenty of options out there to help you out.

  • we have a sponge made by Munchkin that we lay DD on. It's great cuz I'm not having to juggle a soapy slippery baby. You just lay it down in the regualr tub. I love it, the first time I used it is the last time I would think about using my infant tub. Way easier.
  • I use this https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3618616 either in the tub, or folded in the kitchen sink.  Then I can just wring it out afterwards and let it dry.
