If your LO was a fussy newborn, when did they get the heck over it? I am losing steam with DD and her behavior. I know she can't help it, but she still seems so stinking fussy!! Today the pedi said her "colic" could last a year?!?! Wtf?

Re: Getting pretty desperate
Our DS was "extremely fussy/colicky" for the first 8 weeks. He pretty much cried all the time during the day, until he was 6 weeks old and needed extreme measures to be soothed. We are talking constant bouncing, singing for hours, and tons of white noise. It was miserable and I cried a lot.
Sometime during his 6th week, he had a breakthrough and would at least let us rock him instead of having to bounce constantly. From week 8-12 it got better, but not drastically. Now, at 16 weeks tomorrow, we can go out with him not fussy a bit. He takes very little to go to sleep, most of the time. He still needs white noise for bedtime, but I've managed to get him to nap without it. He is such a different baby than he used to be.
I wouldn't say there was a magic day, just that it got progressively better. Since about 10 weeks, everyone has commented on how much "better" he is, so I am guessing that was when people started noticing. Before that, he just fussed/screamed all the time.
I've never heard of it lasting more than 4 months though.
I thought it would never end as well. Our problem was purple-face-screaming her head off from 7-10 pm every night like clockwork. These 3 hours alone wore me out, I can't even imagine if it was any more than it was! But one day when she was around 8 weeks old it just ended. Each night I would dread for 7 pm to come around and I assumed it would taper off, but nope she went from one night of the screamfest to it not happening again. So keep hope alive! It will end at some point, I wish you luck!
She was fussy the first couple months, then went on Zantac for AR. After that, she was much better.
Now she's 4.5 months and soooooo much better!
This was us too, except DD also has reflux. Once we found the right meds, and started her on prescription formula, it was like we had a whole new baby. She used to fight sleep like crazy and fuss both during and after eating. She also wouldn't really nap during the day. The Moby wrap was the only thing that would keep her content!
Perhaps there is something else going on. Our little guy was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy and acid reflux. Before we found that, we were giving him Gripe Water and Mylicon like crazy because everyone said it was just colic. Once we switched formulas and put him on an acid reflux medicine, he is one happy little camper! I talked to the doctor about why this is suddenly so common and he said that they called everything colic because they didn't know what else it could be.
I would definetely try asking about other things. The only reason we found the allergy is due to bloody diapers. And the only way we found out he had reflux (as he didn't have other symptoms) was when he was in the hospital for croup and they did a scope to find out why it wasn't getting better. It was acid reflux. Otherwise, we would have just thought that he was super colicky!
