  • Thanks ladies! We have a long road ahead of us still! Do you stay at home? Are you part of any mom groups or use a day care?

I work FT and send Stella to day care part time (MIL watches her 2 days/week).  I'm part of a Moms group through a friend but we've only met once so far.  When are you due?  Do you plan to find out what you're having?  Will you be a stay-at-home Mom?

  • I teach full time right now. The thought is that I'll take a year off, which is allowed by our contract but a bit touchy because I'm not tenured. It's still early on though, (I'm only 6-7 weeks and due in August) so right now we're all positive thoughts and prayers that everything goes well. This is our first and we're probably not going to find out the gender unless we cave to temptation.  After the year off, I'll probably go back to full time. I want to be completely sure we can afford the year off too. So much to think about!

Do you use a popular daycare around here? I'm one of the first of my friends to be pregnant and I've only heard good things about the JCC, but it's so expensive!

Out of curiosity, did you or anyone you know have Dr. Kassis? He won't see me until I'm 8 weeks, and he's the guy everyone recommends for a high-risk pregnancy, but I haven't found his office to be very supportive just yet.

Sorry for these thousands of questions. I'm a ball of hormones, excitement and worry!

  • Hi-don't worry about the questions-I remember feeling the exact same way :) And as crazy full of questions you are, just remember that there is time to figure things out, especially with work (I know that's easier said than done though).  Can you start stashing away money now to help with things for next school year? Or maybe try to pay debts off (like a car) so you don't have those payments?

Tina and I both have degrees in School Counseling but neither of us are in the school setting right now, due to lack of positions (Tina, hope you don't mind me speaking for you!).  I am staying at home unless a position comes up.  Last year, I worked at the local elementary school part time, but the money I would make would be about the same as day care costs so I decided to stay home for now.  What do you teach?

I'm no help about daycare costs really.  I looked into one last year and I think it was like $120 a week or so.

I saw Dr. Kassis once, around 34 weeks or so.  I had something weird come up in my pregnancy and my OB referred me to him for a consultation.  Someone had told me ahead of time to be prepared that he is a "all business" kind of personality.  However, I liked that about him, he was very straight forward with me.  I think he aired on the side of caution with me and ordered me to have non stress tests every other day, bio physical profiles (ultrasounds that measure the baby later in the pregnancy) 2x a week, and told me at what week I could deliver.  His nurse was super nice.  I have a friend who is pregnant with triplets currently using him, and at least 2 other people I know that had good experiences with him.  Who is your normal OB?  I know that I couldn't be seen until 9 weeks-and those 5 weeks were torture for me!  This board is good for asking questions and getting things out, the ladies are supportive.

Oh-and no, I think our area is pretty lacking the mom groups.  Do you live in Binghamton or outside?

  • Thanks to both of you girls for being so supportive! We've only told our parents so far, so it's nice having a bigger circle to rely on. This board is hugely supportive, but I have to pick and choose which posts to read so I don't get worked up. Most of the time, I feel like things are just "going right" and I'm okay.

We should be okay with money, I guess I just worry about taking the time and still having a job that's pleasant to work at at the end of it all.

For what it's worth, the high school guidance counselor at Harpursville is resigning in the end of January. I teach Spanish 7 - 9 at Harpursville, but live in Endwell.

I'm glad to hear you know of so many positive experiences with Kassis. I think I'll feel the same way once I see him. And yes, these 5 weeks or so are torture!
