Two Under 2

If you do/did PG/Tandem BFing, COME IN!!

DH and I are TTC, but I'm still BFing DD.  She's on solids for the most part, but still nurses 4-5 times a day and I pump twice a day.  I've had supply issues, so I'm taking several herbal supplements to help with increasing volume which I won't be able to take once I'm KU.  I'm wondering how being PG affected your BM and how LO #1 responded to any changes.  TIA!!!

  • I'm still BFing 2-3 times a day. My supply didn't really take a big hit until 25 weeks or so, and then it gradually became less and less. At this point DD isn't getting much milk at all (like 2-3 swallows total per session) but we keep it up because I want to tandem BF. There is an herbal supplement you can take while pregnant, called More Milk Two. It helped me a bit. I was able to BF through the first year without needing to supplement with formula, which was my main goal. DD didn't seem to mind any changes in my milk. She has become less interested in nursing since my supply has dropped, but I know she'll pick it back up again when she sees LO#2 BFing all the time.

  • If you're one of the lucky ones who is able to get their period while BFing, I am so jealous. I had to wean and didnt even get my first period until 6 weeks after I weaned. LO kind of weaned herself (at 11.5 months) so it wasnt that bad but I would've loved to been able to start ttc sooner or kept bfing. For those I Know who were able to get pg while bfing, Ive heard your supply usually stays pretty well atleast through the 1st, if not 2nd tri -- 3rd tri I've heard is pretty hard. best of luck!

I've had 2, but they were 40 days apart and now haven't had one for over 2.5 months.  So, yeah, I don't even know if I'll be able to get PG any time soon, but I'm hoping that we'll get lucky since I sure as heck can't chart anything right now!!  (It's not fair that it seems like the women that get KU while BFing are the one's that thought they couldn't get PG becauseof BFing, but the one's that WANT to get PG have to wean first!!)

  • I bf DD for a little over a year but started to supplement one or two feedings a day with formula when she was 11 months.  I think she started losing interest in nursing right around 10-10.5 months when she became real active and was never a long nurser that seemed to do it for comfort.  That being said I think my her lack of interest dwindled my supply and when I found out I was pregnant again it was because I was getting next to nothing when I was pumping when I'd normally get 5 oz. or so.

Personally for me I think getting pregnant again negatively impacted my supply but I think we were to the point where DD was self weaning anyway.

If you've had two than your probably ovulating semi-regularly even if your not getting a period.  I had 3 periods before I got pregnant they were getting closer together but still were not my normal pre-pregnacy cycle.

I was. I got my period back at 6.5 months after both girls and it was my regular 30 day cycle. My kids all BF EVERY 3 hours round the clock until 6 months old, and after that it got a little better........with DS, I got it back at 4.5 months and then didn't see it until 9.5 months - it was very wonky. After 9.5 months, it went back to normal.

  • If you've had a PP period (or even if you hadn't) I would chart anyways.  I never got a PP period, but felt ovulation pains.  I started charting because we really wanted to get pregnant and I was getting impatient with no AF, and we got pregnant the first cycle.

I'm only 6 weeks, so not too much help on the BF during pregnancy.  So far my supply is fine.  DD still nurses about 3 times a day and 5 times at night.  She seems perfectly content.  My nipples are WAY sore though.

Hopefully we can keep it up all the way through!

  • DS is 23 months, and I am due with #2 in a month. DS still nurses 4x a day and would nurse more if I let him. I have no idea how much, if any, milk he gets. If I squeeze myself, nothing comes out, but that could mean nothing.

When he was younger, around 6-12 months, he went through lots of periods where he had no interest in nursing, but I had to basically force him to. When he entered toddlerhood, he realized he liked nursing and got more and more into it. I think if I would have gotten pregnant earlier, I would have assumed any lack of interest was due to pregnancy.  Knowing that DS went through those cycles while I wasn't pregnant, I know its normal for babies to just go through that. My goal is that DS keeps his nursing up for the next month so that he will start drinking milk for sure once it comes in after birth (DS wont drink cows milk and is a bad eater).

  • I've been tandem nursing my girls for almost 3 weeks, so I'm not the most knowledgeable resource, but I do have a little experience.

I got pregnant without ever getting my first pp period. My supply did drop while I was pregnant, but DD seemed interested still, so we kept going. I had to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, but overall things went pretty smoothly.

I havent had supply issues nursing both girls so far, and DD1 is nursing more now than she did when I was pregnant. There has been some jealousy, but things are getting a little easier every day. GL:)
