Nausea From Standing?

I have a random question that I was trying to research online (since my next Dr.'s appointment is in 3 weeks). So far I haven't had any luck finding anything on the subject, so I thought I'd try here.

I'm still having m/s throughout the day, but I have noticed that it's significantly worse when I'm standing. For example - If I'm standing too long at someone's desk at work simply discussing something, making dinner or doing something as simple as laundry, I find that after several minutes I am incredibly nauseous to the point that I have to sit down immediately. It's just really odd to me that it's so much worse than when I'm sitting down. I don't have any dizziness or lightheadedness. In fact, I'm fine when I am first standing, but then about (3) minutes later, it hits.

Anyone else experienced this? And if so, would you happen to know of a cause? If there's something that I can do to help avoid, I'd like to try it.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Nausea From Standing?

  • I still get this way off and on, I asked my OB about it since it only really feel sick first thing in the morning and I have to stay seated until it passes, she told me that the movement from standing or walking can jolt your stomach or thow off your equilibrium and that may cause the nausea, I notice that sucking on something or chewing gum seems to help, keeps my mind occupied, hope it passes soon.

  • I don't get nausea from standing, but sometimes when I eat to much, my stomach feels really sick (totally my fault, though).  Sometimes the food is sooooo good, I just can't control myself!  SIlly, I know!

I was reading one of my pregnancy books and it said that when you are in your second tri, your blood pressure has a tendency to be a little low and because of this, when you stand to long or get up to fast you can get dizzy or sick.  So maybe just make some slower movements!

  • Oh yes, definitely!  I feel much sicker when I'm standing than when I'm sitting!
