Hm. Perhaps we'll end up with an extra tax deduction.

I'm sitting here having painful contractions every couple minutes.  A few have brought tears to my eyes and I didn't really even find contractions to be all that uncomfortable with either of the boys.

It would be our luck to go into labor today since a) the hospital is bound to be busy as hell, b) our on-call sitter for the boys is drunk watching the Huskers in the bowl game, c) our back-up sitter who would otherwise be in the room with us is an hour away and probably also drinking and d) my H has to go into work tomorrow to finish up a job to be completed by Saturday.

I'm sure it's just Braxton Hicks, but I'm a little nervous about the intensity.  Hopefully she stays in for another week -- at least until she's term.

  • Hmm, BH don't come every 2 minutes and shouldn't be painful. Drink a bunch of water and take a bath and see if they stop... unless you want her to come tonight. :) Either way, good luck!

  • oh my! good luck Jess! Chug some water and try to rest. My DS1 was born at exactly 36wks, it was nerve racking, but all is well. :) eta: this is your 3rd kid, so things may progress faster this tme (or not) but cubby is right, if they are timable and painful you need to be checked. BH are none of the above.
  • If they're that close together, get thee to L&D! I kept thinking I must've mistimed mine because they weren't excruciating or anything, but were 3-4 minutes apart for about half an hour before we left for the hospital. I ended up arriving at 8cm and delivering within 15 minutes--never even got a chance to put an IV in, much less drugs. Good thing I didn't take the time to do my makeup, which I seriously considered! Really--get checked out!

Okay...mine seem like they're right on top of each other.  With some, I can't even really tell when one stops and then the next begins.  I had contractions for HOURS upon HOURS with my boys before I went to the hospital, much less delivered, so I hate to go in too early...or for false labor...but you're freaking me out.  How did you know they were "real?"

  • Ummm, BH are not painful!  Sounds like it may be labor, either way I'd go get checked out!  Good luck!

Are we rooting for a tax deduction or not??!

I know it is a tad too early, but mamarazzi in labor?!  I have to live vicariously!

  • Ditto the others--if they're strong enough that you have to breathe through them and can't talk during one, I vote GO. My labor with K took days of mild contractions 10-15 minutes apart, and I did have that with E too, but they got somewhat uncomfortable (6 to 8 min apart) around midnight, moderately painful around 2am (that's when I realized they were only 4-5 min apart), and then down to 3 min apart and pretty painful as I got out of the shower and we drove to the hospital. We checked in at 3:45 am and she was born at 4:04 am. The pain was only super-bad for the last half hour or so...I got lucky!
  • Right on top of each other usually means real.  BH are usually spread apart and not consistent and are not so hard that you have trouble breathing through them.  Get to the hospital unless you want your DS to help you deliver the baby at home.  If you do not have someone to watch him you need to take him with you b/c it sounds like this will be a New Years Eve baby!  Oh, and the same thing happened to my friend last New Years Eve, she told me her contractions seemed to be getting closer but was sure they were not the real deal and she had the baby less than an hour after getting to the hospital with no drugs.

  • Um, hoping you've at the very least called your OB!  :)  BH may be uncomfortable, but not painful and not on top of each other.  Sounds like it's time to grab the boys and go!!!
  • Even if they're BH, it's real labor if they are consistent and close together. With my first preg, I started getting painless BH every 10 minutes at 32w and when I got to L&D, I was already 2 cm. I'd go to L&D NOW.
  • Go and keep us posted!!  DD#2 was born at 36w2d and was perfectly healthy and happy.  We went home the next day.  Good luck and here's hoping it's a false alarm (or not - depending on what you want).
  • My #3 came fast (granted I was in the hospital and in labor) but she was born on the bed, without my OB there.  It was like "I've gotta push" and pretty much...bam---according to DH she "slip and slided" onto the bed.  So--I say call.  or go in.  but do something! :)  Good luck! :)

Seriously?  As if she can stop her labor.  And honestly, my Goddaughter was born last year on New Years Eve and all we talk about is how she will think it is the best birthday because the whole world is partying.  She can have a birthday party the week after her actual birthday and when she is older she will have her friends over for a sleep-over and the friends parent will be thrilled and as an adult it is the biggest party day of the year!  Ok, Mommy might not want to give her the biggest party day of the year but I am sure she will love it.

Oh, lighten the F up.  Seriously.

  • BH generally aren't that close together or very painful.  You should at least touch base with your OB, especially since you aren't term yet.
