Those posts disgust me too. I can't believe someone would get rid of their furbabies because a real baby comes along. I think you said it right - they are NOT placeholders! Pets are family.

What I love though is that a few people started out agreeing with her and then BAM! Everyone who has a brain started in. Oh, the entertainment on some of these boards
Wow, I cannot believe how many people are jumping on the bandwagon. And the poster who had to get rid of her chihuahuas because she was renovating and there wasn't enough room? For two chihuahuas? Give me a focking break.

Ugh, I saw that. Those posts disgust me and I'm amazed at how they keep coming. How the hell is she going to care for a child when she puts zero effort into at least trying to train her cat?
I like the comment from Cruelsound about the lady who got rid of the chihuahuas because there was no room for the dogs and her baby - is she planning on getting rid of her oldest child because she is pregnant again?

I cannot believe that there are idiots out there actually like that (ok actually I can) but still, I hope they never are allowed to care for another animal and "I'm just positive they'll be great parents " yeah, right..!

I think that was the winner of the whole thing.
I would have to agree....
I could never get rid of my pets b/c we are having a baby. That doesn't even make sense!
That's horrendous! Our Cleo had a UTI in the Spring/Summer and behaved the same way. All it took was some antibiotics and different food (and before we knew it was a UTI we tried hormone therapy). Her kitten's problems could be easily resolved
I agree all the early posters who jumped on the bandwagon are awful too!
That post aggravates me. That is just pitiful, my dogs are my babies, I know the dynamics will change when baby is born, but they are still part of our family.
I thought I was replying here, but ended up replying on the original thread. Whoops, that had to be edited.
When people asked if I was getting rid of dog for the baby, I said that I was keeping the dog and putting the baby up for adoption. I can't stand when people use that as a reason to get rid of a pet.

That absolutely disgusts me. I was scared where that thread was going when I read the first few posts, but thankfully, most people are not complete idiots.
There was a bit on the news last night about how the shelters were getting overcrowded because people got their kids puppies for Christmas and got rid of the dogs they currently had. It angered me to no end.

I agree. Our dog, although he can be bad sometimes, is part of our family. I would never get rid of him because of something he did (unless maybe if he became very aggressive, which I do NOT see happening ever). He once ate a baseball hat and cost us 2,000 to have it surgically removed. Sure I was mad, but I love him just the same. Dogs show such unconditional love for their owners, and we should show the same to them, not put them out when baby comes along.

That's ridiculous. My cats have times where the act rebellious too, but so do my children. Why on earth would you be willing to give away an animal simply because they are being just that... a animal. Seriously, that'd be like me telling my 3 children "Sorry. You're being rebellious and you're making a mess so I have to get rid of you." That's just stupid. @_@

If my son ends up being really really allergic to Sadie, we would give her to my dad, which would break my heart. But no, there is NO way I would ever just decide that since we have a baby, we don't need our dog. I'm so excited for him to get old enough to play wiith her.
This is just another example of how much people suck.

Ugh, I think I'm going to pretend I didn't read this because the thought alone makes me stabby. If somebody told me they did this, I would honestly be afraid of my reaction. And as far as how I feel about pregnant women who use the baby as an excuse to get rid of their pets- well let's just say I adopted an 8 month old destructive, anxious, disobedient puppy when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I love her to the world's end. I don't want to hear it! There is no excuse. I must bllow their minds.

I hate seeing things like that. You don't just abandon your animal(s) b/c you have a baby.
My DH made a comment a while back about how we "might have to get rid of our cats" when this LO comes, and I just looked at him like he'd lost his mind. Not even a question. Some people though don't seem to get it. We're not getting rid of our cats, we're just going to have to put some extra effort into making sure things transition smoothly. Geez people.
Wow that is just crazy. There is no way that I could get rid of our cat just bc we have a baby coming. Unless she was harming the baby or something like that.

Poor furbabies! We actually got our pup two days before I got my bfp and even though we'd only had him 48 hours at that point we never once considered "getting rid" of him. If anything we quickly began reading up on how to get dogs used to a new baby!
FFs...this post was also discussed on the July board, and a poster there said that she got rid of her dog after her kid was born because she was afraid the dog would step on the baby, and that his tail would whack the baby. The home she sent the dog to didn't work out, so now the dog is back with her, but she says that she needs to get rid of it before the next kid comes along.
She needs to stop reproducing (kid #3, and from her siggy, different baby daddies) if that is her level of responsibility.
I decided to add my 2 (or 5) cents. Hopefully it'll help her out...if she's read that far.
Your information was VERY helpful and I'm going to remember your sn if I ever have furbaby questions in the future! So glad you're team PGAL
Thank you! I try to help out when I can on here (as much as possible without physically being able to examine a patient). You ladies have meant so much to me that it's the least I can do to try & give back. Definitely let me know if you have furbaby-related questions/issues!
