Very broad questions just for some other parents' views...THANKS ![]()
To women who have already given birth: Why did you choose to have/not have a doula at your birth?
For the women who chose to have a doula: Do you feel like they truly helped you? How did this make your husband/partner feel? What were the approximate costs for JUST the labor and delivery part? Would you hire another doula for your next birth?
To everyone: Who were you comfortable letting in to watch/help during active labor besides medical staff? (Yes I know this can be across the board, but please just list relation...)
Re: XP: doulas and who watches
Besides medical staff there was DH, mother, and sister (sister was in charge of taking pictures). This time it's just going to be DH. I had a great experience with my mom and sister, but since I know what to expect this time around, I'd like it to be a little more private.
Edited for clarity.
This is my first but we are planning on having a doula. Basically what I thought was the role of the MW is actually the doula. I want someone with me the entire time, suggesting positions, helping out where is needed, etc. I want an advocate for me for my birth plan. I don't want to put it all on my DH since it's his first baby too and he might be sleep deprived and overwhelmed too.
The first doula we've interviewed costs $850 and that includes 2 pre-natal and 2 post-natal appts and L&D. I checked around and for her experience level, that's the appropriate range.
I asked all of my doula questions on the Natural Birth board. You might want to post your question there too.
