XP: one hour glucose screening

Did anyone get a really high number on the 1 hour glucose screening and then go on to pass the 3 hour?  They made me take the screening early because they found slightly higher amniotic fluid on my follow-up level 2 ultrasound, and I got a 187...yikes.  I don't have any of the risk factors for GD so I was shocked by the number.  I did read that high stress could throw the number off, and we were really worried about the ultrasound results, so I'm hoping that's why the number was so high.  I have my 3 hour test next week and I'm really watching what I eat until then, in case I do actually have GD...but just curious if anyone else has had this experience, and still passed the 3 hour.  Thanks!

  • The first time around I had super high numbers the first time and then passed the 3-hour.  This time I passed the first time around.

    Good Luck!

  • I think you should just eat how you normally eat.  The test measures how your body breaks sugars down in food, not how much is in your body.  Although, making healthier choices never hurt anyone.  I hope you pass your three hour, keep us posted.

  • This is just my personal opinion, but even though they say you don't have to fast, I did. Type 1 or Juvenal Diabetes runs in my family. My family members usually do fast before their blood work. So I figured if I did the same for this diabetes test,  the test would be more accurate (since something like 50% of all women fail the first test). I just went to lab first thing in the morning so all I did was have  a late breakfast. The "juice" they gave me filled me up since it was so heavy in sugar.

Maybe doing a mini fast before hand would be helpful, (i.e., not eating anything for a couple hours before going to the lab). It might not sway the test either though. But from what I've understood most women pass the 3 hr test. Hope that helps and good luck!
