Unable to sleep?

I'm a cranky lady at this point.  After three nights of waking up every 20 mins I'm ready to harm someone.  Anyone else not sleeping well at all?  Anyone able to sleep?  What are you doing that lets you slumber?  I must know because I was sobbing last night at 230am because I was so uncomfortable and tired..and vomiting.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  And I swear if anyone tells me "just wait till the baby is here" I may Hulk out.

  • I'm with you. Seriously, it's every 30 or 40 minutes. I get so pissed cause the entire house is just snoozing away!

Last night was the worst, though. This back pain is becoming unbearable!

I HATE this. Why did you ask me if I'm able to sleep at night if this is your flippin response??!

But sorry, I can't sleep either. A lavender bath relaxes me enough to fall asleep though. Then I either have to pee or switch sides (which is an effort all on its own) then the rest of the night I am awake with my eyes closed.

  • I'm right there with you. Honestly, the insomnia got so bad at the end of my pregnancy that I slept a whole lot more once DS arrived! Yeah, I had to get up every 3 hours to nurse, but I could sleep while baby nursed and I slept between feedings as well.

I keep saying "I can't wait until the baby is here so I can sleep", which people laugh at, but it's true.

Hang in there. Have you tried tylenol PM? I had a little bit of luck with that in the beginning of my pregnancy. I think I'm going to give it a shot tonight, especially since DS is going to be at my parents tonight. I'm definitely going to bed at 9pm on New years eve with some tylenol PM. haha

  • Are you open to an occasional Ambien?  I definitely don't take it every night, but if I've had 3-4 nights without sleep, I'll take one to get some rest, which my OB said was fine.  My reflux and restless legs are terrible, so I have trouble sleeping basically every night.  Not to mention peeing every 2 hours and getting up with a toddler.  Ambien is my friend!

  • I've been taking the Tylenol PM, I have a preexisting back condition and had surprisingly little back pain till the last month.  It was so spasmed last night it was causing me to vomit.  I will talk to my doc about the ambien at this point I'm so frayed and sore that I need to try something else.

  • I've been waking up so paranoid about my water breaking in bed. Didn't help that yesterday during a nap I heard a 'pop' from down there- but felt nothing. Weirded me out.

If I haven't slept well for a few days I'll take a Tylenol PM to knock me out- but only one. Last weekend I took 2 and felt like like I had the flu from hell all day Sunday- groggy, felt like lead, didn't have an appetite... it was awful. So now, only one for me.

  • so sorry you are sleepy, i know the feeling.  but so far i'm able to sleep just fine every night except i wake up a couple time to eat a snack but able to fall back asleep, last night i woke up at 2am nauseous and chewed some gum and then fell back asleep.  i don't get a straight 8 hours, but even with the few interruptions i still get enough to function the next day.  i always read these posts where people can't sleep and i really hope it doesn't happen to me because i'm already so uncomfy with sciatic/back pain.  it hurts like a b!tch to roll over in bed.  i take unisom to sleep at night, its ok to take during pregnancy, try that first and if it doesn't work take ambien. the other night i took a bath and got a massage from DH that really helped me relax and camomile tea works well too. GL  if i ever vomit in the middle of night i don't sleep well the rest of the night, so i understand that too.

This is what I do.  My OB also cleared it and said that me not getting any rest will harm the baby more than me taking the occassional Ambien.  I take it about twice per week if I'm not sleeping.  If you don't want to go that route I'd take a benadryl.  That is on the OK list too.  Also buy a curve body pillow. Sleep with your back towards the long side for support and the curve part between your knees.  I just discovered this postion and found it comfortable most of the time. GL!

  • I don't seem to have trouble falling asleep- it is the staying asleep part.  A few weeks ago, I was getting up every two hours or so to pee or just waking up at random odd hours (like 3a and not being able to go back to sleep before I get up at 4:30-5ish a).  I have a hard time because I wake up and my mind is running already and it is hard to just stop thinking.  A few things that helped me are 1. a million pillows so I am as comfortable as I can be not sleeping on my stomach, 2. not turning on all the lights in the bathroom- we are lucky to have one light that is pretty dim over the shower and I just turn this one on instead of the two other bright lights, 3. limiting my naps during the day, because even when I am exhausted during the day, if I sleep too much, I sit awake all night in agony because I'm not sleeping.  Anyway, you may have tried all of this already, but I hope you get some sleep soon, I know how you feel!

  • I was having a lot of trouble sleeping lately and found something that helps out a lot. Since I was having a lot of heartburn, I tried to elevate my upper body a bit with some pillows. I haven't slept this good in weeks. It's only a slight elevation, so it's not like I'm sitting up or anything...but so much less heartburn and I am much more well rested. I still wake up occasionally, but at least when I'm sleeping it's quality sleep. Hope this can help you all too!

My dr put me on ambien! It has been a lifesaver! I am not really to the uncomfortable stage yet....I just wasn't sleeping! Wide awake....so he gave me a script of it!

  • I feel your pain.  I can't sleep either, but it's because of sciatic pain and always having to pee.  I would give anything to go back to the time that I had to pee every 2-3 hours at night.  At least I was sleeping in between.  Now, it's pretty much every 45 minutes.  With my sciatica, it takes me at least 5 minutes to get back and forth to the bathroom.  I am miserable!!  I am so sick of people saying, "Just wait until the baby is here and you aren't sleeping."  As long as my sciatica and the constant pressure on my bladder goes away, I will be a happy camper!!

  • i miss sleep.  i've always had insomnia, and it's worse now.  when i'm about to fall asleep, little girl likes to start wiggling around and wakes me up.  i just kicked my dogs out of the bedroom because every little sound wakes me up now.  and i keep waking up earlier and earlier.  ugh.
