I am going back to work on Monday and LO will be with my mom. I was wondering how many oz should he have at each bottle. He has had between 4 and 6oz in the evening when DH gives him a bottle,He averages about 5oz, but I wasn't sure if that different during the day. I don't want to waste excess BM by defrosting too much.
* I have the typical latin mom who always wants to feed(overfeed) lol
Re: How many ounces of BM at 3months/4months??
When I went back to work at 12 weeks, DD drank two 5 oz bottles (I was away from her from 8-4:30). She continued to drink two 5oz bottles until about a month ago I decreased one bottle to 4oz and left the other one at 5oz (she is 11 months now).
It is easy to overfeed a BF baby. My DCP knows to give my DD her second bottle at least 2 hours (or more) before I pick her up, because I want her to want to nurse right away when we get home.
Lol at the latin mom reference. My MIL is Dominican and literally follows DD1 around with a spoon asking her if she wants food. MIL has been DD's caretaker while I was at work since she was 4 1/2 months and even with all the suggestion of food, DD1 still only ever took 5 oz at a time. In the beginning I was scared I wouldn't be able to keep up with the pumping but once solids were introduced, the pressure was off. I stopped pumping when she was 11 months old and I believe the frozen BM lasted until she was around a year old. She weaned at 14 months.
DD2 already seems to eat more than DD2 so I wouldn't be surprised if she drinks more at each feeding when the time comes. I will leave frozen bags and let MIL defrost them as needed. That's what we did with DD1 and it worked.
Thanks Ladies,
I was planning on leaving a bunch of frozen bags of BM at my Moms and let her defrost as needed. I think I'm just over thinking everything because I'm anxious about returning to work! I am only going to be working 3 days and am hoping to EB on days that I'm not at work. I'm just nervous about being away from him during the day.
