So my books say go to the fire station to make sure the car seat base is installed properly. Can I not just read the manual? Sorry if this is a dumb ques. I am a first time mama and def want to do what is safest for LO, but it just doesnt seem that difficult.. What did you do?
Re: car seat installation..
What kind of carseat do you have and how will you be installing it?
If it is an easy one with the latch system in your car, I would just follow the directions, if it is a seat belt install or a more complicated seat I would get it checked.
We did ours shortly before going to the hospital and had our neighbor "look" at it, he said it looked fine. We had the Chicco KeyFit 30 and used the anchors in the seat to install.
ETA: our neighbor that looked at ours is a Police Officer with 2 kids that has worked with the car seat installs program they do at their precint.I personally would go somewhere. We did and it was totally worth it, and even though we read the instructions and followed them exactly it was still not tight enough. You'd be shocked at how tight those suckers are suppose to be installed.
Are you doing an infant bucket seat right away with a base? Or what?
I learned a lot about installing seats when we took ours to the fire dept to be inspected. I'm really glad I took the time to do it - and it was a very easy process - just made an appt and showed up, done in 20 minutes or so.
I would recommend it. Once you see it done, you'll think "I could have done that myself at home" because the latch system and bases are pretty easy. But the reality is that most people have their seat installed incorrectly and most injuries in crashes are a result of that.
