First of all, I am so glad that I found this board. I have been on my monthly board since the beginning of my pregnancy but no one there has the same situation as me and I really felt alone without anyone who really understands. Thanks for reading, offering advice/suggestions, and just letting me write this all out.
At my 16 week appt, my cervix was 3.3 cm and at 18 weeks, it had shortened to 2.5 and I had funneling. (I had a LEEP in 2005.) Today, I am 19 weeks my cervix had lengthened just a little bit and was 2.7 cm with no funneling. My dr. didn't tell me to go on bedrest but just said to continue "taking it easy" until next weeks appt.
This past week, I pretty much stayed on the couch as much as I could. I am a teacher and on winter break. I am nervous about what is going to happen when I go back to work...if I go back to work. The idea of bedrest really freaks me out but obviously, I am willing to do anything that I need to do to keep this baby cooking as long as he can. I'm nearing the end of the period when I can get a cerclage and since there wasn't a shortening, my dr. doesn't think it is necessary. That makes me nervous too because I'm scared it will shorten sometime in the next 20 weeks. Ugghhh...there are just so many factors and "what-ifs"...it really makes me crazy.
Re: Cervix update
I did bed rest for my last pregnancy for a total of over two months. Half of it was in the hospital. And I have to say, it's not the worst thing in the world. You'll survive, no matter what! But I say if it makes you feel better to get a cerclage, I'd get another opinion about it. That cervix number is not one you want to see going down!
Plenty of my hospital buddies got them much later than 20 or even 24 weeks (or 30!), so I don't see why they say you're nearing the end of the period when you can get one. Unless there's an infection or broken water, there's no reason not to do an emergent cerclage. I had a delayed-interval delivery at 22.5 weeks and had a cerclage! So don't let them tell you it's too late if you get shorter. I'm pretty sure it won't be unless you're term!
