I failed my 1-hour glucose today. Thought I was in the clear when I didn't hear from them last week so gorged on Christmas candy and goodies (oops!) Turns out they just screwed up at the lab and I had to do it again.
153.
A few MoMs have told me that it's pretty common for MoMs to fail the 1hr and pass the 3hr. Curious if this holds true.
In the meantime, the thought of drinking 2x the crud and then not eating for 12 hours is making me want to puke. I haven't gone 12 hours without eating since my FET ![]()
Re: Poll: Glucose tolerance test
I chose "other."
I failed the one hour. We decided to skip the three hour and just call me GD.I have so many risk factors/family history that it just seemed easier. I also had hyeremesis and fasting for that long and then drinking glucola was just not going to happen. I also have crap veins.
It was hard to keep my fasting number and post-breakfast number in range, but I was able to with diet for awhile.
I wound up on insulin after getting the betamethasone shots, til it was out of my system, and then I wound up on insulin again for the final few weeks of pregnancy.
I passed my 1 hour with my singleton and twins.
I have head that if you avoid carbs in the day(s) before the test that it can make you fail b/c your body goes WOAH! when the sugar comes in.
I ate normally (lots of carbs!) in the days before the test- and the morning of the test I ate eggs with cheese (not fasting... you don't need to fast)... and passed easily.
good luck!
My OB sends everyone for the 2-hour fasting test rather than starting with the 1-hour. I failed it at the 2-hour mark by only 2 points.
Don't worry about the Christmas goodies at this point. You've probably been having fairly regular ultrasounds to check on the twins, right? They would have noticed if there was already a problem in the babies' growth pattern, and you've got the opportunity now to completely avoid issues by monitoring and regulating your blood sugar.
One thing that surprised me is that the nutritionist wants me to eat MORE carbs than I'd ever been eating in the past. My daily levels are all below their goals despite failing the glucose test. It's all about balancing the carbs with protein and seeing how your body responds to what and when you eat. I ate a big ol' piece of chocolate cake on Christmas Eve, and my blood sugar level was still 40 points below where they want it!
I failed the 1-hour by a very small margin, and then passed the 3-hour at every point except the 2-hour check (fasting, 1 hour, and 3 hour were all fine). The same day that I got those results, we found my cervix had shortened to .6 cm, so no one brought up diet changes in light of the fact that chances were greater I would go into pre-term labor!
I didn't change my diet at all (I was eating healthy, with only 1 dessert a day), and my boys were both fine at birth.
I agree that the 3-hour is a total pain, but make sure to bring a snack for yourself for the second the test is over. And go for the test as early as the lab opens so that you are not waiting ALL DAY to eat. Good luck!
This for sure. I got really, really sick at the three hour. I almost fainted twice and felt certain I was going to throw up. The nurses at the lab were very sympathetic (let's face it...when people know you are pg with twins, you get special treatment), and put me in an exam room and reclined one of the chairs. They kept bringing me cold compresses and I laid down for the last 2 hours of the test. THANK GOD. Originally, they wanted me to stop and come back the next day, but I knew it would be just as bad and didn't want to do it twice.
I passed easily on the three hour, and my score for the 1 hour was like 150 or 152....
