Success after IF

Well, I'M not pregnant, but SIL IS! (& a PGD question.)

And I'm okay with it. I thought I would be sad, but I was very very very happy for her. They've been trying since July, so it's not a surprise. DH and BIL picked her and her DH up from the airport and they stopped by and after some chit chat pulled out an envelope and said "Did you see what they have at the airport now? Like little booths that take your picture, it's so crazy" and I pulled out an U/S picture. My jaw DROPPED and of course they were secretly recording my reaction, lmao.

Anyways, on to the bad news, FET #1 didn't work. I've had my time to "mourn" because I've been testing everyday. I just want to continue moving forward and start another cycle.

So I'm a bit concerned with my embryos. We had 2 fresh cycles and 4 transfered and 1 stuck. For the FET, we thawed out 8 embryos and 6 sucked and RE said 2 were really good. (but, I cannot help but wonder if it's because they didn't get a chance to go bad yet? they thawed out the last 2 right before the transfer and the other 6 I BELEIVE the day bafore to see how they do).

So, do you think this is a good case to ask for PGD testing? I don't know yet when my WTF appt is, but do you think that it would help at all? I mean, out of 12 TOTAL embryos that supposidly were very good, only ONE made it to a baby? (granted, not all were transfered, but I still kind of think that's pretty bad that all 6 they first thawed were bad).

Please help.

  • I am sorry about your BFN and congrats to your SIL!

I am somewhat in the same boat.  We are dealing only with severe MFI (like sperm in the thousands with no morph or motility).  We tried 2 1/2 years on our own and then we did IVF#1 which we had a 5dt of one blast and that was a BFN.  Second 2 sucked - one cancelled and one chemical.  With DS we had 2 transferred and 3 frozen.  We wanted to put in 3 because we had had it but they said the embryos looked wonderful and it was a classic case of when we would have trips so we had just DS.  FET in September - 2 out of 3 survived and they said they looked really good and didn't lose cells or anything.  Another chemical.  Now this fresh cycle I had none to freeze and they put in my two best which they said they were really happy with and they were very good looking embryos.  Well I have been testing positive since 6dp3dt and yesterday at 12dp3dt by beta was 55 so they are thinking another chemical.  Sorry for the rambling but I feel how you do....why do the embryo's look so good but are not yielding any babies?  I had a total of 9 embryos implanted and only 1 turned into my precious boy.

So I guess I am wondering the same, where to go from here and why aren't they as good as they look?

I really hope your next cycle works out well for you and you get some answers.

  • First off, I'm sorry about your BFN. No matter how prepared you are for one, it still sucks. Congrats to your SIL. I'm glad that you are able to be excited for them!

I really don't know about PGD. We transferred a total of 9 embryos and had 1 stick on the very last FET. At my appointment to discuss #2, those numbers didn't seem to bother my doc at all. I technically did get pregnant with the fresh IVF, but m/c, and I think he was more on the "bad luck" line of thinking. That being said, why not ask? What's the worst that will happen? Your doctor says, absolutely not needed?! (I know all this is a moot point now that I got a BFP, but I was just giving you an example of how you can transfer a lot of embryos and sometimes just have bad luck, unfortunately. How do you know for sure? You get tested.)
