Damned ASPCA commercials...
They should NOT be allowed to air those things! I am a HUGE animal lover- we have five 4 legged children (three kitties, two rats) and these commercials TORTURE me. Every time they come on I have to change the channel. They make me so incredibly sad and depressed- I just can't stand to watch them. I really think ASPCA needs to re-think their strategy here...
And the worst part is I'm currently watching Untold Stories of the ER on TLC and this woman was in a house fire, she's in the ER, and all she is doing is yelling about someone finding her kitten who was left in the house... at the end of the show the EMT's bring her kitten to the hospital to see her... HOLY WATER WORKS! Aaahhh! I think I will spend the rest of the day snuggling with my kitties

I am right there with you!! As soon as I hear Sarah McLachlan, I know EXACTLY what it is and have to change the channel asap.
That stuff totally pulls on my heartstrings.
I agree - I'm the same way.
But you know what's really sad? That those kinds of cruelties go on every single day. I donate regularly to our local humane association - it's not a lot, but I do my part. Our dogs are both also rescues.
Then I don't feel guilty about changing the channel when the commercial comes on!
ETA - sorry for sounding so sanctimonious in this reply! I don't meant to come across like that - it's just that I really feel so strongly about animal welfare and rescuing, I guess it's hard to hide

I think its hilarious that we are watching the same EXACT thing and thinking the same EXACT thing. I have two cats and I love them more then the world. One of them was sleeping next to me and when that commercial came on I grabbed him up and hugged him and kissed him and told him how lucky he was because not all animals have good mommies and daddies and they dont get nummies twice a day and nobody changes their potties.
He gave me kisses and fell back asleep in my arms.
I dont understand how people could be so mean to animals.

HappyAardvark- I am on your side here, it kills me that this stuff happens every single day to sooo many animals. All of our four legged children are rescues as well- two of our kitties we adopted from a local shelter, the third MH rescued personally- she was supposed to go to someone who was going to feed her to his boa constrictor (a kitten, can you imagine? People disgust me!) And our two rats were supposed to be snake food as well- and they're fancy rats bred to be pets, not like off the street rats. Terrible terrible terrible.
We always donate to our local shelters and often donate things such as blankets, towels, etc. So yeah, I don't feel bad changing the channel either!
I agree! MH knows enough now to sing through the commercial if I am in earshot so I won't hear it.
I volunteer at an animal shelter and it has made me "tougher" towards sad animal stories (somehow?), those commercials still make me cry! I love my kitties more than anything, and give them big kisses and hugs when I think about all that happens to animals out there..
