Pumping ?

So DH and I are going out overnight for NYE and it will be the 1st time I will be leaving Brayden overnight.  I am EBF and I have a decent sized freezer stash. What do you find is the easiest for pumping while out? I don't know if we will have our car or how close we will be to the hotel all night? This is new to me b/c I never left Blake while I was BFing.  Also if I pump, how long do I have until its no longer able to be frozen. Thanks :)

Re: Pumping ?

  • I have left DD 3 times overnight since she was born but not until she was about 7 months old and not nursing as much. The first trip away at that age I pumped 4 times a day or so and just dumped the milk. It wasn't really possible to keep it and really no reason for me to anyway.  If I were you, feed before you go then pump off what he doesn't eat. Pump at your hotel before you go out for dinner. Go back after dinner if you can and maybe pump again or if not see if you can make it until you get back and pump before bed. Then again in the morning if you can make it that long. I ALWAYS get ducts that back up when just pumping until I can nurse again, so don't be surprised if they start to get clogged up a bit.  You can leave pumped milk out w/out refrigeration for 6 hours. You can leave it refrigerated for 24hrs. I have only ever just pumped and either fed, dumped or frozen immediately. Not sure if you can just put it in the fridge and then freeze it. I'd just dump it unless you really feel like you need to keep that stash. It pained me to do it but there's always more! :)  Good luck and have fun. Mom's of two need stuff like this!

  • I would probably just pump at the hotel when you get back and once in the morning. Refrigerate it and then freeze it when you get home.

  • I EP and deal with milk alot. It can be unrefridgerated for 10 hours and refrigerated for 3 to 4 days.
