Plus size mommies?

I am a first time mommy and I need to find maternity clothes.  I am 23weeks 2 days and my old jeans are starting to get too tight to function!  Any good places to go for cute plus size maternity clothes?

Re: Plus size mommies?

  • I'm right on the line of regular vs. plus size and have had a hard time finding stuff!!! I'm in Canada (don't know where you are) but i have found that Old Navy and Motherhood are the best!!! Old Navy has some really good specials right now too! Thyme Maternity also goes up to XXL which works for me!!! Let me know if you find anything good!

  • Old Navy sucked when I tried.  Target had tons of stuff, and had great stuff on clearance.  They had up to 2 and 3X.  Old Navy's 2x was like a normal large here. It was more like plus size meant tall over there.  No room for any kind of hips or butt, and the shirts seemed made for the flat chested.  Never got a single shirt there, and I got one pair of pants that were loose cargo pants.

Like I said, Target was the place for me.

  • Yeah it's RARE you find something that stays that size at Old Navy. The tops end up shrinking when you wash and really won't work if your larger than an 18/20. I bought some maternity pants at Motherhood (not sure if they are in business) and I bought tops at Target. I tried Ross and got a few dressy tops in a larger size that worked. Good luck!

  • I just bought some jeans a few sizes up with a stretchy waistband from Target. Been wearing the same few pairs since week 9 :) They also have some decent stuff for maternity as well at Target. I don't think most places put cute and plus sized in the same sentence. They feel we need to wear grandma prints!

Old Navy really makes me mad that I have to order stuff online and ship it back if it doesn't fit right!!

  • i'm lurking...but I am kind of surprised at everyone's complaints about ON.  I have been wearing their maternity clothing since I started to show at about 23 wks and am still in the same clothing....no problems with shrinkage or anything like that.  I'd suggest them, and their prices are really good on maternity clothes.  I just ordered 2 new shirts (1 for a funeral and 1 for new years eve) and the total with shipping and handling was $26.

  • I'm a size 18/20 pre-pregnancy and I'm on the short side (5'3"). I got most of my stuff at Motherhood and a few things at Old Navy. I did have to have all of the pants/jeans I got at Motherhood hemmed up. They did not have anything that was short enough for me, so that's something to consider if you are on the shorter side. I got a couple pairs of jeans at JCPenney that I love. They are by far the comfiest maternity jeans that I own but the tops that I got there ended up shrinking about 2 sizes.

My complaint about ON is their lack of maternity items in store. I have always had to try clothes on before buying them and I haven't bought anything else online from ON because I have to send it back every time.

  • Like others Motherhood Maternity and JC Penney have plus size maternity.  Old  Navy just started selling plus size maternity, but doesn't have a great selection.  I did get a couple tees though that I think will work for a while.

  • I got my plus size stuff at Sears.  Sounds strange but they sell the same pants as MM but they are 10$ or more cheaper and you can use a coupon if you have it.  The tops were also reasonable 5-10$, and the nightgown with a robe set was only 19$ at sears.  I did get a couple of MM shirts from DH for Christmas cause they were marked down to like 10$ so you may want to check their sales racks.  ( I am very cheap when it comes to clothes)   I have heard mixed things about ON plus maternity just because you can't try it on and I found I needed to go down a size in preg pants. Our target only had reg plus size stuff no maternity plus, but I did buy some pants that were plus size and cotton that were comfortable just a size up.

  • motherhood was my best bet.  no luck with old navy (except for stretchy cotton tshirt tops) or target.  i also found some good sales at motherhood in the store and then online also.  i'm thinking i also found a few things at lanebryant.com...they have maternity clothes online but not in store.

I am waiting for this bump to come about so I can buy some new clothes!!

  • I bought my pants (jeans and khakis) at Motherhood Maternity and really liked them until the stretchy part of the jeans started coming undone and turned into a huge mess resulting in about half of the belly band being gone!  It didn't start happening until about a month after I bought them, so I couldn't return them. :(  The khakis have been wonderful though, with no problems.

I have a few tops from there as well and love them! I also have a couple tops from ON that have worked really great too. I really like their tan tops. Super long and comfy. Perfect for a growing belly. :)

  • I'm cheap and didn't want to spend a lot on maternity clothes because I don't have to dress up for work (warehouse setting).  I hit up Goodwill and Savers.  I have also ordered a couple of things off of ebay.  I did find some decent stuff at Kohls, but most of it wasn't actual maternity, it was just plus size that works as maternity.

  • Thank you to everyone!!  I have a lot of ideas to look now, I totally forgot we have a JCP and Sears here...pregnancy brain - gotta love it!  So far, I have had no luck @ ON here, there selection was really limited. Thanks again!!

  • I wear a 3X in maternity & I got mine at Motherhood.  And their prices aren't too bad.
  • JCP all the way for me.  For my 1st pregnancy I ordered online at ON and while it was good at the time they aren't in the best of condition for a 2nd time around.  Target had some good stuff when you can find it.  I do have several dresses that I just went up one size and they woked fine for the entire pregnancy.

They carry it in stores only I think.  But it is the 2 hearts line I think from MM just at sears for a better price.  I didn't try to find it online at all, but good to know they don't have it.
