Trying to Get Pregnant

Temping question and an introduction

Hi Ladies,

H and I have been married 5 years and started TTGP last cycle. I've been lurking since then, and have read the newbie info at the top of the forum.  I tracked CM and physical "symptoms" last month and not surprisingly, as it was the first try, am on on cycle #2.  I decided to start temping and charting with FF.  I'm pretty sure I ovulate, I have ewcm and pretty clear O pains, but I realize that only charting will confirm that it did in fact happen. FF is sending me daily "lessons" and I've only received up to lesson 3.

So, my probably stupid question-and I'm sorry in advance. I can put on a flame retardant suit if this is idiotic and I should be able to find the answer on my own- just let me know, I can take it! Ha!  I promise that I looked for the answer in past posts and on FF, I suspect it is in a more advanced lesson, but as I think I only have one good temp, and am on CD#3, I'd like to get this figured out sooner than later.

The difference between my temp yesterday and today was 2 degrees. Not, .2 or .02, like 97.5 vs. 95.97.  That is wrong, right?  I tried to chart it and it flew off the chart.  I took both first thing in the am, both at 5:08, after a full night of rest, without getting up.   Any thoughts or tips to make sure I am doing this accurately?

Thanks!  And, in light of yesterday's 9DPO BFP, I'm currently drinking Red Raspberry leaf tea!

Thanks for all the info I've learned already from lurking.

Re: Temping question and an introduction

  • Did you have any alcohol the night before your temp spike?

Anyways, I would try not to analyze each individual temperature. You are looking for a pattern, and you should try to see the "forest between the trees" as TCOYF explains it.

I know it's hard to do, but keep temping, and hopefully your chart will start to make some more sense!

  • Usually body temps wont shift that much if: You took your temp at the same time, you didn't drink alchohol the night before, your not on/taking meds, your not sick...You shouldnt have seen a shift that big.

The 95 temp seems extremely low to me... this is probably a fluke. I'd guess the 97 temp is the accurate one and i'd go from there.

Make sure when you are temping that you put the thermometer under your tongue in the crevice in the corner and of course- keep your mouth closed and try not to move.

  • What was your sleeping pattern like the nights of those temps?

I had a change in temp kinda like that when mine went from 96.8 down to 95.7 one night...I attribute mine though to waking up half uncovered and just discarded the temp as it didn't make that much of a difference to my chart anyway.

I agree with PPs that you are looking at the overall picture and as long as you are able to see some definate patterns you are good...me on the other hand no definate patterns =(

  • 95. seems REALLY low. I might get a new thermostat.
Also make sure you a temping with a BBT not just a reg thermometer.

My daughter's name is Nora too :)

It's not too common, so I alwayas get a little excited when I hear another little girl with her name!

Thanks Ladies.  This is almost exactly what happened, but I felt even more stupid asking "Is waking up with my bare arm completely uncovered in my cold room enough to mess with my temps?"

I totally get that one or two off temps won't make an impact.  As I started yesterday, and am on CD3, I only have one good temp (1 out of 3 days)and wanted to get it figured out, since I will need mostly accurate temps for the chart to be useful.  I also hate mornings, and if I'm going to wake up at 5am on the weekend too to take my temp, I want to make darn sure I'm doing it right!

I'll figure out how to link the chart tonight.  It only had those two temps, one that seemed reasonable, and one that seemed really low.

    Thanks again
