Will they do IVF if you want it without doing all the other things... IUI and all the drugs? metformin and clomid?

  • I don't have an answer for you but I can understand what you mean.  It sucks doing all the trial & error, waiting to see if this will work & then when it doesn't you have to anew w/ something else & hope that works.  that said, I still want to persue the less aggresive methods 1st.  best of luck to you

You should contact a RE, they specialize in infertility. I'm willing to bet your OB isn't doing everything that's possible to try and get you pregnant. Are you being monitored with u/s? Have you had a HSG? Not everyone responds to Femara (or clomid), but there is always injectables.

I hate to break it to you, but IVF is far more expensive than what you've paid so far and even then it is not a guarantee. I would make a consultation appointment with a local RE and tell them your concerns.... they'll be able to direct you in the correct direction

Listen to Papps, she is wise.

OP, your post kind of rubs me the wrong way. I think I speak for most of us who are doing IVF when I say we would gladly do IUI's, clomid/Femara if it would work for us. IVF is kind of a last resort. I also think you (and your RE) can learn a lot from doing IUI cycles. You'll see how you respond to stimulation and if you are prone to cysts, how your lining looks throughout your cycle, etc.  And frankly I wouldn't have gotten my endo. dx if I hadn't done an IUI.

I know it's hard when you've been trying for a while. Take Papps advice and find a good RE in your area. Good luck to you.

  • I have not gone down the IVF road yet- or even IUI for that matter, but from my perspective, I would much rather try the cheaper/easier/whatever routes first before wanting to do IVF.

While I understand that following the continuum of care from TI all the way to IFV would be more expensive in the long run when you add it up- I just try to keep positive that maybe something will work- and I won't have to go to that last step.

Skipping to IVF might be cheaper than IVF+IUI+everything else in your timeline, but you never know if something a little less invasive might work.

At least that is how I feel. I might end up being able to just go up one more level- and save thousands...

    You just never know.
