Trying to Get Pregnant

little info & DH SA results

Hi ladies. I mostly lurk and get answers to my questions, but I just need someone to talk to now. Here's a little info: DH & I have been married 2 years, we're both 27 and ttc since last December.

The OB suggested getting a SA and we just got the results back yesterday. DH has 2 million sperm count, 50% mobility and 50% morphology. They said mostly likely that's why we're not getting pregnant. The OB wants DH to go to a urologist (not sure what they'll do for us), but his appt is scheduled for Monday to go to his regular physician for a referral. I've been doing some google searches and it sounds like we'll need to have medical help to have a baby. We're both pretty upset. DH even shed a few tears last night when we were talking about it. It feels like a blow to the stomach. My worst fears are coming true.

I have to run to an eye doc appt., but thanks for listening!

Re: little info & DH SA results

  • I am not familiar with SA results or it's impact on your fertility, but I wanted to say I am sorry and wish you the best of luck TTC.

  • I'm sorry the results were less than ideal - I can imagine that would be difficult to deal with for both of you. I don't have any knowledgeable input, but I do know there are a few ladies here dealing with similar issues, and they should be able to give you some input. I also know there are supplements and other treatments that can be helpful in some sperm issues, so don't count yourself out of conceiving naturally just yet.

Sorry you are dealing with this. I hope everything turns out OK for you.

  • I'm very sorry you are going through this!

My suggestion to you is that you find a good urologist that specializes in Male Factor Infertility. Sometimes your OB or a Fertility Clinic may know of one in your area.

    Good Luck to you!

  • I am sorry to hear that. I wouldn't give up all hope yet though. There are a lot of things they can do to naturally improve semen quality and quantity. Diet and vitamin changes can help.

I recommend reading Fertility and Nutrition (or Nutrition and Fertility...). It has a whole section on ways to improve male fertility with diet and supplements.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have him mention that when he goes to his appointment.

  • I'm so sorry!! But it seems like you and your DH are being proactive about this and taking the necessary steps which is very good. And welcome, btw. There are a lot of woman on here and a good portion have some infertility issue or another... including male factor, so I'm sure you've found the right place when you need someone to talk to, especially someone who may be going through the right thing. Good luck!

  • Thanks for taking the time to read. My family doesn't know we're TTC, so I don't have anyone to talk to and I know DH doesn't want to tell everyone his issues. We're still going to try the old fashioned way, but if we need to take extra steps we definately will.

  • There are quite a few supplements aimed at helping mens fertility. Have your H talk to his doc but some are Selenium, Vit E, and Vit C

  • I'm so sorry the SA results weren't good. It is really hard news to hear. The urologist will want to do a physical exam and order blood work. Finding issues like varicoceles, high LH, and/or low testosterone will help the urologist determine what your next step might be. Again, I'm sorry you are dealing with this. ((hugs))
