Anyone here have MTHFR and/or Factor V and TTC?

Just wondering if there were others like me who have MTHFR or Factor V Linden (I have both) and TTC. Tyring to take my folic acid every day! :)

  • I have mthfr. My RE had me start taking 4mg folate and a baby aspirin daily when we were ttc DD, and I've been taking them since.

  • My girlfriend has the MTHFR gene. However, it took two years of no pregnancies, and then six early m/c's, followed by a successful pregnancy for anyone to test her for it.

She did subq Heparin for her first trimester (not sure how long exactly) as soon as she got a BFP and that was the pregnancy that stuck.

She now has a healthy 2.5 year old DD and is trying for baby #2 (and she is 39). Her MD says she will need to start Heparin again if/when she gets a BFP.

Please fill me in on what MTHFR is.  I don't think it means what I always say in my head when I read it.

ha-ha. I don't know the medical name but it's a hereditary blood clotting disorder (do I have that right ladies?)

After one miscarriage, I got tested because I knew it ran in the family. I then went to have a healthy 6 year old (with my ex husband) with blood thinner shots every 12 hours! Both BFP happend with the very first cycle! I'm now on cycle 6 with my current husband so we are having a bit of time.

So kinda wondering if others were having problems TTC or if it is even factor. Just opening the conversation too!

Gonna try baby aspirin next cycle I think.

  • I have both plus Factor II prothrombin.  I have 4 sisters all who got pregnant their first cycle.  One of my sisters lost her son to a placental abruption at 35 weeks.  She is now pregnant again but after that everyone got tested and we all found out we have these three genetic blood disorders.  Our Mom has 6 children so its possible to be pregnant without problems.

I've had 2 c/p in 3 months!  FML  My DH just got tested b.c we found out he had cancer so we had to figure out a baseline SA in case he needed chemo, he came out with slightly low motility and poor morphology which slightly explains the 9 mo of ttc when everyoen else in my family gets ku quickly.

     We are a HOT MESS!

Sorry still new here, what is c/p? I looked at the bump editors blog and didn't see it.

Isn't it funny that some don't have any problems at all? My mom had three kids w/out a hiccup!

  • Hi, I work with Neevo. Maybe I can provide some additional insight into MTHFR? MTHFR is a genetic classification. In a practical sense, it refers to the amount of MTHFR enzyme present in your body.Having MTHFR is an indication that you may be limited in the value you receive from traditional folic acid. You should seeks additional folate support from a more modern form of supplementation such as L-methyfolate or metafolin. Modern prenatal vitamins have begun to include active L-methylfolate to help patients with MTHFR.

There are two classifications of MTHFR, homozygous and heterozygous. Homozygous is either CC or TT. Approximately 50% of the population is at CC which is considered normal. These individuals have an ample amount of MTHFR enzyme and can easily process folic acid into L-methylfolate. About 10% of the population is TT. These individuals have less than 30% of the normal amount of MTHFR enzyme and cannot process folic acid effectively. They tend to be at risk for adequate folate. The rest of the population, approximately 40%, is heterozygous or CT. They have between 30-70% of normal MTHFR enzyme levels and fall somewhere between the status of the two groups outlined above. I hope it's okay if I chime in. I was dx Homozygous MTHFR A1298C after our fourth loss. My RE put me on baby aspirin, Folgard and 4 mg FA daily while TTC, to be continued throughout pregnancy.

She also asked me to stay away from caffeine - there is some evidence that it interferes with FA absorption, and she is of the "it can't hurt and can only help" school of thought.

Once I triggered, we started daily 40 mg Lovenox injections. My homocystine levels have always been fine, but again, there has been such positive results with this therapy, that she was all for trying it.

We did have another chemical pregnancy, but had started the Lovenox later (after the BFP). We began the injections this time the day after the Ovidrel, and so far, things seem to be going well.

Good luck to you! Take that Folic Acid!
