Trying to Get Pregnant

Looking for a good TTC diet

Anyone on a good diet that is helpful while TTC?  I am working on getting in shape and losing some weight.  Just wondering if anyone has read about or is doing a diet that is good to do while TTC?  I work out with my Wii Fit but need to eat better too.

On a side note, my OB just told me that walking 15 minutes a night helps induce ovulation.  Hmmmmm.

  • I'm losing weight with weight watchers. The program is very big at losing weight slowly, the healthy way. So I really think its a good TTC program. I walk, but usually in the morning. Maybe i'll start wlaking at night though!
  • I try to do low glycemic index, since insulin spiking affects lots of hormones. Also, my doctor ordered an all organic diet with less meat for DH and me. The thought is that all the artificial chemicals act as fake estrogens and can wreak havoc on hormonal balance. Just eat clean and healthy in general (less meat, whole grains, less pre-packaged food, etc.)
  • 2-3 servings of fruits and veggies (each) per day

Protein, protein, protein!!  We eat lots of chicken and egg whites.  Try to stay away from red meat if you eat that a lot.  Also, 2-3 servings of fruits and veggies (each) per day, whole grains.  I only eat 1 slice of whole grain toast per day though.  Cut down on sugar and don't put salt on anything!

  • I would look into the Abs Diet. It's pretty sound in terms of nutrition, and emphasizes the good stuff like whole grains, healthy fats, whole foods, etc.

Also, don't eat TOO much protein. High protein intakes (over 100g/day) have been linked to problems conceiving (read this in What to Expect Before You're Expecting-- I know that's not a popular book around here, but I believe I've seen it mentioned elsewhere, too). For general dieting purposes, it's fine, but when TTC you may want to watch that.

I totally agree with this. We eat organically now, and I feel it makes a huge difference in our overall health.

  • Well it is not a fertility diet but I think out of all the diets/eating plans out there, it is my favorite. It is called the Blood type diet and they also have some specifically for pregnancy and nursing as well. It based on your blood type and what foods you should eat and what foods you should avoid.
