3rd Trimester

one hospital tip

This may be a 'duh' but I didn't think of it with DD, so maybe it'll help a first-timer.

If you are rooming in with baby, call the nurse when the baby wakes up to eat to come take your vitals (both you and baby)....I would always get up and feed DD and get her back to sleep and then fall asleep myself only to be woken up 30 minutes later by the nurse coming in to check on us.  Get it all out of the way while you are already awake so you can maximize the sleep. As long as it's close to the time they are supposed to come take them they'll usually come and just get it out of the way.

  • Good plan!

I delivered at the weirdest hospital ever, so I couldn't have done that. They would not allow you to room with the baby-if you were asleep, the baby had to be at the nursery. In the middle of the night, they would bring the baby to you every 2 hours, even if he was asleep, to force them to nurse. It was so annoying.

  • That's a really good tip. There is nothing worse then getting woken up for vitals when you just finally fall asleep. I am on baby #3 and would not have thought of that.

That's bullshit, I would have been pissed.  Our hospital was the complete opposite and encouraged you to keep the baby in your room unless you needed a break for some sleep.  Katie was a terror on the second night so I asked if the nurse could take her for a couple hours.  She went and hung out at the nurse's station and was returned at the shift change at 5am.

  • Great advice!  I wish I would have known this the first time around.  I couldn't get any good sleep in the hospital because those nurses always woke me up!
