BC after LO is born... paragard?

I have been researching BC methods to use after LO is born.  Ideally, I would like for DH to get snipped, but he is not having it.  I do not want a tubal either because it seems so permanent (may revisit this decision in a few years).  Unfortunately, I have had terrible effects from hormonal BC in the past, so I was thinking about the paragard.  We used the "pull and pray" method successfully for 7 years, but with 2 LOs under the age of 3, and no desire to have another baby, I don't want to chance it anymore.  What form of BC are you using?  Has anyone had the paragard?  If so, what was your experience?

ETA: The diaphram is out for me too.  I love spontaneous sex.  I don't want to have to take a break to insert a diaphram first.

Re: BC after LO is born... paragard?

  • I've had the Paragard IUD for over a year and I love it...I have no complaints.

  • I had the Paragard and liked it. It was so easy, and I will not use chemical BC again, so options are limited.

The Paragard did cause AF to be heavier, but I use the Diva cup so flow volume really doesn't matter. The only bummer for me was that it partially expelled after 10 months. Now that we know I have an arcuate-shaped uterus, I will have to talk  to my dr about if I should get it again.

It seems ironic to be thinking about BC after dealing with IF, but another baby now would be very stressful and I don't think I can hold an early PG without progesterone so avoiding a MC is very worth using BC.

  • I can't use hormonal BC due to clotting issues, so I have had a diaphram (it sucked - talk about ruining the mood) and then paragard for several years.  There are a lot of pros to having paragard.  The one problem I had was that AF was the worst thing ever, I would literally be curled up in the fetal position for 2 days because of cramps.  That said, I stuck with paragard for like 5 years, so to me it was worth the 2 days of pain a month.  I have also heard it's not as bad if you have already had kids, so hopefully it won't be a problem.
