Pregnant after IF

Anyone else measure really behind? In limbo and terrified!

I had my first u/s at 6w2d and they only saw a sac.  My RE was not optimistic and said I had a 95% chance of m/c.  She had me come back in a week. I tried to prepare myself for the worst for the next appt and it was a really rough week.  Last week at 7w2d, I went in and was shocked when she said she saw a fetal pole and lo and behold she saw a flickering heart beat. However, the embryo only measured 6w1d instead of 7w2d.  She didn't measure the hb (I don't think she could) and said at this point to be "cautiously optimistic" and they released me to the OB.  I think it's a 50/50 chance.  She said to make sure the new OB did an u/s within 2 weeks.

I have an appt. on 1/4 with a new OB (I'll be 9w2d), but it's just an initial appt. with a nurse and then hopefully she'll send me for the u/s.  If the tech can't tell me what she sees, it'll be several days before I get those results.

In the meantime, I'm terrified. I don't have any m/s (and didn't the first time, when I m/c at 13 weeks, and know that maybe I'm just lucky).  Has anyone had a similar experience?  I'm trying to be optimistic, but it's so hard some days!

  • Hang in there! At my first OB appt around 9 weeks the babies were measuring 4-5 days behind. My appt was also only with the nurse but she did the u/s that same day. I'll be crossing my fingers that you have a little fighter in there. Also, I did not have any m/s until 8 weeks and I never threw up.

  • Well you have already beaten the odds once so I would hold onto that!  I am surprised the RE went ahead and released you.  Hopefully the OB gets you in for an u/s very soon.  Looks like you are measuring just over 1 week behind.  I know many women have measured several days behind and been fine so I hope that you get great news at your next u/s.  I am so sorry you have to wait, I know that is so hard to do.

  • Unfortunately, my last pregnancy was very similar and it did not end well.  I would demand another ultrasound on the 4th to check on the growth and heart rate.

I'll be praying that your baby continues to grow and the heart beat gets stronger.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I know my insurance only covers the RE for 8 weeks after a pregnancy, and maybe the RE does too.  I definitely will miss having b/w and u/s in the office every time I went!
  • The waiting must be agony.

I am not an expert but I think that if they saw a heartbeat, that is very, very good! I know my baby B measured a bit behind at first but he caught up.

Best of luck and keep us posted. I hope the time flies for you.

  • I was pretty much well just as far along as you when I went through this too, yes I did miscarry, but at my 7wk appt they still didn't see a heart beat- you have a heart beat! A little fighter! So even though your measuring a little behind, have faith!
  • can't share a similar experience, but just wanted to say that I was thinking of you and sending you lots and lots of baby growing vibes!!!! I hope your u/s next week shows a strong, healthy heartbeat and lots of growth!!! GL!!!!

  • Don't give up yet!!  My RE said that it's totally normal to measure up to a week ahead or behind.  And you could have just had a late implanter.  Baby has a HB and that is huge!!

  • Oh also - I haven't had an ounce of m/s this whole pregnancy.  Definitely don't let that worry you!  Hopefully you are just one of the lucky ones :)
