So I am guilty of watching shows like 16 and Pregnant and yes I actually enjoy them.
But I've noticed that a lot of people microwave their baby bottles in the microwave and I always thought that was a no no. Like with my DD if she had a partial bottle in the fridge I would mix it with some warm water and make sure the temperature was ok. My DH says that microwaving a bottle is totally fine, but it just doesn't seem like the safest thing to do to me. So is it ok to reheat baby bottles in the microwave?
Re: Warming the bottle in microwave?
It's definitely a no-no for breastmilk, not sure with formula. I'd assume it's a no-no.
Let's just say the girls on 16 and pg pretty haven't taken many parenting classes
I want to know this too. I always thought it was a big no-no as well. Mainly because the microwave heats liquids from the inside out...making the center really hot and the outside cool. I mentioned that to someone and they said it is fine as long as you shake the bottle first. Then again, I would be wary of plastic bottles, even the "safe" ones. I would like to know other bumpies opinions on this as well.
BTW: I love watching 16 and pregnant! I feel if they can do it, so can I! lol!
This is exactly what I used to do with DD! I would warm up water and mix it into the refrigerated formula. It makes me cringe to watch people microwave the bottles and than just give them to their baby. Does no one wrist test anymore?!
In a pinch, I've done it. I'd never pull it out and just give it to my baby - I always mix it up and test the temp, and I only heat for about 15 seconds at a time. I can't imagine anyone would just pop the top on and start feeding without at least mixing it and sticking a finger in to make sure it's not hot, but 16 and pregnant does seem to be an exception to...every rule.
Of course, I also co-sleep and let them nap in the sling, so my kids may be doomed anyway.
I know for BM its a no-no but I didn't use formula with DD so I don't know about that..I would imagine its not the safest thing. I always just ran my bags of BM under warm tap water to thaw them out and that was it..DD was used to drinking body temp milk from me so why would I make more work for myself to make it warmer than it needs to be..? I didn't bottle feed much to be honest, pumping never worked well for me and it was more work than help but even when I started DD on cereal and things I never warmed it..if she will eat it at room temp why get her used to having something warmed up..
There are a lot of things the girls on 16 and Pregnant do that make me cringe..but then again I have plenty of friends who make me give a side eye to some of the things they do with their kids and they are far from 16..

I microwaved occasionally with DD. I was told it could cause hot spots, too. But usually did it for like 10-15 seconds, shook it up, then put a bit on my wrist. My rule was I shouldn't feel it at all. Not cold, not hot. I never ran into a problem, I also didn't do it ALL the time. Alot of the time, I just left a bottle out with the amount of water in it, added powder, shook and served. haha.
