What is the proper way to dispose of our old thermostat being that it contains mercury? Thanks!

    Here we'd take it to our county's waste sanitary district.  They take anything with mercury and will dispose of it safely for you.  It's generally free for mercury items, although I guess we've never tried to do a thermostat.

    Check with your city.  They should have a hazardous waste drop-off - at least that's what we have here.

    Check with your city but our Lowes and Home Depot will dispose of any mercury item for free.

    Our local Ace hardware takes them...although ours is still sitting on a shelf in the basement Confused
