Question from DH to the board...

What is the proper way to dispose of our old thermostat being that it contains mercury? Thanks!

  • Here we'd take it to our county's waste sanitary district.  They take anything with mercury and will dispose of it safely for you.  It's generally free for mercury items, although I guess we've never tried to do a thermostat.

  • Check with your city.  They should have a hazardous waste drop-off - at least that's what we have here.

  • Check with your city but our Lowes and Home Depot will dispose of any mercury item for free.
  • Our local Ace hardware takes them...although ours is still sitting on a shelf in the basement Confused
