3rd Trimester

Ugh can't shake the worry now

So at our anatomy scan LO was not cooperating at all, but our tech told us she was 80% sure it was a girl. She scheduled us another ultrasound two weeks later and confirmed 100% a girl.

So naturally theres quite a bit of pink in her nursery and we registered for girl items.

Yesterday at our 37 week appt, my doc scheduled another ultrasound with our appt because he wasn't 100% sure that she wasn't head down so he wanted some reassurance. She is definitely head down which is great, but our ultrasound tech was trying to show us everything she could, heart , organs, her feet, hands and legs, we got to see a 3d image, which was kind of hard since shes so crammed in there now. So after we saw all that she said "i can't get her to show us the money shot, she isn't in the right position for that" so i said, well we had two anatomy scans before confirming girl. She said "yeah I just wanted to make sure."

I immediately broke out into a sweat. I obviously wouldn't care if we had a boy or a girl but with everything we have for her being girl related, it would be pretty tough and expensive to change everything out if it somehow they were wrong and it was a boy. lol. It has consumed my thoughts all night. On my chart at the docs it say 100% girl. Would a tech tell you that if she wasn't sure? I have a non stress test today at my docs office, would it be totally crazy of me to ask them for another ultrasound to ease my mind? The ultrasound tech told us she has never in 25 years been wrong, so why can't I stop worrying?

I am so attached to her being a her, her name, her things, her room. I know we would adjust if it turned out to not be a girl but I still just can not get the worry out of my head. Has anyone who has other kids had this happen? Any input ladies?

  • I can understand. I don't care if this baby is a girl or boy, but going through 5 u/s this pregnancy and having 3 out of the 4 anatomy scans being told she's a girl, I would be a little frustrated if I was told differently later on at my 36 week u/s.

Don't fret too much, I'm sure she is a girl, I just know that some u/s tech are a little wary about saying their guess if they are unsure and unable to see properly.

  • It would be crazy to ask for another u/s by your doctor.

I would suggest a 4d boutique place. You'd have to pay out of pocket, but if you are that worried, it would be worth it for your peace of mind.

  • I can understand why you would be worried...It is a lot to go through if it's a boy and you have to change everything.  Plus you have been bonding with your LO as a "she" and probably picked out names and such.  That being said, I think that if there was any doubt on your doctor's part they would not tell you it was 100%.

  • I totally understand your worry. With my son I was disappointed for a split second at the anatomy scan finding out he was a boy, because I wanted a girl, but once I'd adjusted I was SO EXCITED for my little boy to come that I was terrified that maybe the tech's had gotten it wrong all along. I was never given a percentage or anything of how sure they were so I assume it was pretty clear, and there was never really any doubt after that, but I couldn't escape that feeling they could be wrong. I'm glad to be rid of that worry with this pregnancy because I found out 100% with my amnio that I'm having another boy - it was dreadful having any level of doubt last time.

As for asking for another ultrasound I wouldn't go that far. You only have a couple weeks until you're due so I don't really see how knowing two weeks in advance will give you much of a leg up on changing everything should they be wrong anyway. I don't think they're wrong if they were so sure to say 100% at any point, so it would probably end up being for nothing, and you might not even be able to see much properly at this stage since it's such cramped quarters.

Things to avoid during pregnancy: Eye contact with cats. Cats will suck the burgeoning life right out of you, using their infamous feline mind-powers. Avert your eyes, and move along.

FACT: 1 in 10 people are said to be a carrier of Listeria. Therefore you should avoid all shopping malls, grocery stores and busy street corners for the duration of your pregnancy. Or microwave anyone you contact until steaming, just to be safe.
