It's only a big deal if you let it be. I am not ready, DS is not ready, so we are going to wait. :-) We still do sippys with meals, but he just plays with it.
i think it's just like anything-the longer you let them have it, the longer they'll keep it. by this point it's more for comfort than anything and that's why it's a hard habit to break. our pedi told us to have dd off bottles by 1 year b/c it's bad for their teeth??? i would just stick with it b/c eventually you'll have to do it and no matter when it is, it'll be hard.
O still gets a bedtime bottle, which I am in no rush to discontinue. He uses sippies tge rest of the day, but that's our one time of the day when we really get to snuggle and I am going to miss it when he gives up the bottle!
My mom called me yesterday just to say that I NEED to take DS off the bottle because a "new study" shows that his jaw will be screwed up..I am all for advice..but back off..He is only 14 months...Urgh!
I'm in no rush. DD still gets a bottle in the AM and one at bedtime.
yeah but you're talking about beer, right? i think OP is talking about baby bottles, duh.
I switched my baby to cans of beer at bedtime a long time ago because they're cheaper and because I'm a little bit better at mothering than most bumpies.

DD does fine with sippy cups. She drinks water from them at every meal, she just flat out refuses to drink milk from them.
This!! DD will NOT drink milk from the sippy! Water, no problem. Milk, she literally tells you no. We still do a bottle before bed and honestly, I'm not sure when I'll stop that because at least I know she's getting 8 full ouces of milk a day.
Honestly, if it wasn't for my deep desire to potty train, I'd let her keep her bottle until she decided she didn't want it any more...even if she was still drinking from it in the first grade!
I took it away from DD cold turkey on Christmas (worst mother of the year). She hasn't even noticed. However, my mom is demanding I give it back to her and DH thinks I should too (because she's still a baby).
I'm really torn about my decision because I looooved that snuggle time. So much so, I'm considering giving her a morning bottle just because...
Eh, not a big deal in our hosue. DD's been fine with sippys and even regular cups for water/juice for a long time, but she will only drink milk from a bottle. I've tried milk in a sippy and she refuses. If she was only using a bottle for everything and couldn't use a cup at all, then I'd worry more, but since she uses all of them freely it doesn't bother me.
I don't think it is a big deal...but I am so glad we are finished with bottles. I hated washing them. DD didn't what she drank out of as long as she got to drink. We took them away 4 days before her first bday.
I think they say to take it away at a year because the longer they have it the more attached they become to it making it harder to take it away from them as they get older. We took it away at exactly one year, and it wasn't missed one bit. I think I'm the only one that misses it. I miss giving her a bottle at night.

We are in the same situation. I feel like it's more important for Tegan to get 16-20 ounces of whole milk a day then to get rid of her bottles, at this point. She doesn't seem to be super attached to the bottle, but she won't drink milk out of a sippy like she does from a bottle.

I believe this is my most favorite quote ever! I might just have to add it to my siggy, with your permission, of course.
Re: Why is taking the bottle away such a BIG deal??
It's not a huge deal. It's kind of like starting solids... Everyone is up in arms about it until you get into the swing of it.
We gradually pulled the bottle and gradually weaned off the paci. No big deal.
Do it when you and your LO are ready.

No silly, the beer is in cans not bottles. The milk is in her bottle :-).

wow! avery must be really advanced for her age! i'd be scared that sloane would cut her lip on a can...good for you though.
This. I love my bedtime snuggles

I got her started young.
