Hey everyone! So today I had my 18 week ultrasound (I'm actually 18w5d) and found out I'm having a little girl! We are so excited. Everything was going good, the baby was moving a lot, hiccuping and acting very limber. Then at the end of the appointment the tech said I have a low-lying placenta. I was so distracted with finding out the sex that I didn't even think of asking her what a low placenta meant. Anyway, when I got home I googled it and now I'm a bit worried and can't stop thinking about it. I'm now waiting on my doctor to get back to me to see if things are good.
Has anyone else been told this?
Thanks!
Re: Low-Lying Placenta
Yes, I found out a few weeks ago that I have a low-lying placenta as well. My doctor recommended in my case that I not exercise, have intercourse or lift any heavy objects. They will check again at my (28) week u/s to see if it has moved back into the normal position. If they find that it hasn't, they may need to put me on bed rest. They weren't too concerned about it though, since it usually corrects itself.
While yes, it is something to be concerned about, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will have a problem with it. I've refrained from everything my doctor asked me to and haven't had any bleeding or problems so far.
It'd be in your best interest to take it easy until you hear back from your doctor with any instructions on what you should do. I hope it corrects itself for both of us!
At my 20 wk anatomy scan, I was told I have a low lying placenta. Dr said it was 2.4, they like to see 2.5 (at least 2.5?). He said not to worry about it now but to take it easy--no straining, no heavy lifting. He also said it almost always corrects itself (I think it should move as the uterus grows?) and they'll take another look at it at my 32 wk ultrasound. GL!
I was told this as well. My doctor said 99 percent of the time, it corrects itself and is common. She said that even if it didn't move, as long as we don't face pre term labor, it shouldn't even be a problem. I figure those odds are pretty good!
Also, I am on pelvic rest, but can still exercise.
No worries! Congrats on your girl!!!!

Thanks everyone! Although I wish none of us were dealing with this, it is good to know that I am not alone. I finally heard back from the doctor and he said that since the placenta is near the cervix and not covering it, the chances of it moving up as the uterus grows is very high. He did not give me any special instructions but I am just going to take it easy and not lift anything too heavy. I am going to ask him if another ultrasound will be taken at a later date to check on the position of the placenta since he did not mention this either.
T&P to us all and may our placenta's move on up!
