If you are a WAHM. What do you do?

I'm seriously stressing about going back to work, like crying and all. If all things go as planned it will only be for 3-6 months, and I do work close to home so I go home daily to feed the girls and I work semi part time so it won't be that bad but I'm still stressing! It's not what we had hope would happen, but things beyond our control dictate that we need the extra income for a few months. My Q is if you WAH what do you do? I'm trying to find something I can do from home to bring in a little income. I'm not crafty or wish to sell stuff like Mary Kat ect. I think even when I do SAH it would be nice for a little extra $$ to add to savings ect.

  • I don't bring an income, but would like to... I'm interested in seeing some answers to this :)

  • The only thing I've found besides door to door selling is tv comercial phone calls. My aunt did this and made about $300-$500 a month but I wouldn't be able to do it because you have to commit to hours and need quiet. I know there are surveys you can get GC abd such but I don't know any good sites.
  • I still do some freelance legal work for a firm I worked with before I moved to the city I now live in. It mostly has to do with cases or individuals I was involved in before I left. When something new happens and the firm is busy they just send it my way. Is it possible for you to do something for your old job at home? That's usually how you WAH (at least I think, I don't actually know many WAHs).

This. It's very rare to land a brand new WAH job. Most either come from previous jobs or entrepreneurial endeavors.

I'm a managing partner for a small advertising agency and WAH on the bulk of our interactive development. We started out that way, grew into an office, then the economy turned and we downsized and now all WAH with a shared office space (shared with a few other small companies) in case we need it for client meetings.

I wish! I'm a surgeons assistant so she really needs me there. I'm also her office manager. I do love my job and honestly if I leave I'll never get lucky with another employer like her but right now my family is more important.
  • I also work for my previous employer part time from home. It started on a per project basis and I'm now back to having regular responsibilities. Do you have any other past employers that you could approach, other than your current?

    No, I've always done this.
  • I know WAH jobs are hard to find as most are from your previous employer but I though I'd ask to see what everyone did. I'm thinking I'll just suck it up! LOL. It will help us for a while and the extra income can go to pay off our hospital bills. :)

My mom worked as a nurse before staying home with us, and when I was in elementary school she started doing medical transcription part time from home. Since it sounds like you'd be familiar with medical terminology and such, perhaps this is an option? At the small-ish company my mom worked for, I think all (or almost all) the transcriptionists worked from home. She doesn't do it anymore, so I'm not sure of the current details, but the hours were flexible (probably with a deadline). Maybe something to look into?

This.  Also you generally need childcare for a true job even if you're WAH.  That said,  I'm signed up with a few survey companies that pay money for surveys you complete online and it's fun and easy, but really it's hardly more than coffee money (think $300 or so a year).  If you're interested I could send you some links, just send me an e-mail at kjerstens at gmail.

Is working part time something that would work for you and the surgeon?
