I bought her 2 puzzles, one is the alphabet and the other is numbers to 20. Well they are suppose to say what letter/number it is as you lay the piece in the right spot. It says the letter but it doesn't matter which letter she's trying to put there. She's trying to put the C in the O spot and it keeps saying " O is for olive" seemed like a great idea as she learns well with puzzles, but not if it's saying B is G, you know? Also when I took a sticker off it took some of the top layer of the paper over the wood. Geez, these were very $$ as far as puzzles go $22! Oh well, she likes it and I'm sure it will help her once she and I do it together a few times. DD can sign the alphabet (gets some words but mostly signs the tunes). It signs the alphabet also. Just I'm a little disapointed as far as M&D toys go.
Re: Disapointed in DDs Melissa & Doug puzzle :(
Yea they just have to have contact.
Also, C has had a musical instrument one for a while and it will decide to just not play the sounds. That frustrates him.

It's not even contact. That little circular thing in each puzzle section is a light sensor so even covering it with your hand should set it off. It makes it the most likely toy to go off at random in the middle of the night scaring the piss out of you and wacking your kid up so never leave it lying around without the pieces all in it.
I don't know about it not working now but it's definitely not defective because of the fact that it says the letter regardless of which letter is going in it. That's, unfortunately, a design flaw.

I hate them on principle for being MIC but still expensive and marketed like they're something special. But I did buy DD a few straight-up wood puzzles b/c they were so cheap at Marshall's (like under 5 apiece). She loves the shapes one.
A puzzle that makes noise--and then intermittently? Oh hellz no, I'd be taking that back!
I was going to say the same thing!!
