  • Big Smile  Truly, just diet and exercise. For the first 3 months, I just changed what I ate (didn't add in exercise ... at 243lbs, I was NOT motivated to exercise at all!). I cut out ALL fast food, which was a staple in my "diet." I didn't eat fast food for a year. I ate a lot more protein, veggies, and fruit and less carbs (although, I definitely didn't cut them out all together). After my body had adjusted to the diet change, I started an exercise program 5 days a week that incorporated both cardio and strength training and just increased the amount of time doing each activity as time progressed. It took me 2 years to lose 80lbs, but about 60lbs came off within the first year. The 2nd year I was much more lenient with what I ate and didn't exercise as vigorusly (although I still went 4-5 times a week).

Overall, I think the biggest thing that kept me honest and motivated was tracking my food intake and exercise. I used the "Health Trackers" on www.prevention.com -- it helped me SO much to think about what I was actually eating. I'd be happy to give some more specific tips if anybody wants to PM me with questions!

  • OMG you look amazing!  i am so impressed.

I have lost up to 55 lbs, but have gained most of it back :(  The past couple months I have been off track (since TTC) so I am trying to refocus.

  • Thanks girls!

B -- that's awesome that you had lost all that weight! When I've "fallen off the band wagon" (and it has happened several times!) it really helped me to revisit journaling or logging what I was eating. I realized that I still CAN have some not-so-healthy things, just in moderation. It kept me honest about how much I was eating, which I think is just as important, if not more important, than what I am eating.

  • I started tracking what I am eating again... but we went out for Mexican last night, which is my fav.  UGH  I am trying to just dust it off and move on.

Totally just dust it off! It is so OK to splurge every now and then. I would get so down in the dumps, feeling like I was so harsh on myself when I restricted what I could eat. It was so much easier for me to stay on track and feel better about myself when I allowed myself to pig-out every now and again. Smile

    Agreed.

I go up and down about 30 pounds every year and a half or so and I know that is totally unhealthy. Right now, I need to lose 20, none of my pants fit, and I'm feeling extremely BLAH. You've inspired me to start journalizing everything again. This time when I lose the weight, I'm not going to just lose it all in a couple of months, I want to make this a lifestyle change that I can stick to. Thanks. :)

Thanks so much girls! This totally makes my day Smile

Nat, you're so right about it being a lifestyle change. It doesn't matter how fast we lose the weight, it matters that we try to be healthy as much as possible.

Sounds like you both have the right motivations and will power to make it happen!!

You look amazing!  What an accomplishment!  Has it been difficult to keep off at times?

  • WOW!  Just wow!  That is amazing.  I know how hard it is sometimes, having lost 60 pounds a few years ago.  I have gained about 15 back and really struggle with getting motivated to get back on track.

You look wonderful, and I know you must feel amazing and proud!  Great work!!
