Ate old bread...

Earlier today around lunch I ate a sandwich with 2 slices of this bread I've had sealed tightly and sitting on top of the fridge, not in it, for about a week. I looked at the slices I used before I ate them to make sure they weren't gross or moldy, and it didn't taste weird. Then, just now I was about to make another sandwich, but to be sure I checked out the bread at the very bottom of the bag and there was 1 slightly mold-looking spot on the bread.. so I tossed it in the trash. Now I'm freaked out because I ate bread that was possibly about to mold..

How harmful could it be to my baby if I ate possibly about-to-mold bread (unknowingly, of course)? I never got sick or anything from eating it, so is it anything to worry about?

Re: Ate old bread...

  • It's not harmful. First of all, there is nothing inherently unhealthy about mold itself, at least the kind that grows on bread. Gross yes, but it won't make you sick.

Second, if the slices you ate weren't moldly, it doesn't matter that other slices in the bag were. That's like throwing out a whole bag of apples because one of them has a bruise.
