So I was scheduled for a medical induction today at 3 and yet here I sit at home waiting for these idiots to find a bed for me. Heres the background. I have Hypertension and diabetes because of the lack of control the doctors were able to acheive over these issues it is far less safe for me to have an outside baby than an inside one at this point. I was supposed to be induced during week 37 because any time in week 38 and on was determined to be too dangerous as my placenta could fail at any point and she was slowing down a lot and on MONDAY had failed the Bpp. So she isnt doing too well but she also didnt have results that said for sure that her lungs were fully developed (my fluid was diluted). So instead of starting the induction monday night which was still during the safe time frame, they decided to start it today. Only problem being that now im in the 38th week (which was supposed to be way to dangerous for her) and because so many women are trying to get that tax break the hospital is packed and apparently they do not have room for me to start my induction to potentially save my daughters life!!! I am soooo frustrated because not only have I been on bed rest since week 22 to try and save her and of course doing everything the doctors have told me to do but also I have been fired from a job that i worked 7 years to get because of bed rest. I feel like I have given up so much and yet there are all these other women who may have had very easy pregnancies and no fertility issues (which i have had, the doctors still cant explain how i got pregnant in the first place) who decided to induce their own labors for a tax break and now I cant get my little one out! I am not assuming this I was actually told by one of the nurses that they had like 6 women who did the at home induction stuff!!! so here I sit waiting to try and save my baby oh yeah and not only am I worried about her but because of being fired from my job my health insurance runs out on the 1st of the new year!! Ugh sorry that was so long I am just sooo frustrated and scared for my little girl!
Re: Vent- Labor and Delivery!!
I'm really sorry that you're having to deal with all of this. I hope they are able to get it all worked out for you ASAP.
That said, I think it was really sh!tty for the nurses you spoke with to have told you the above. Seems like there is a ton of presumption going on there and it's not really fair to judge the ladies who are in labor there based on this info since OWT induction stuff is pretty hit or miss.
Listen, I feel for you and I understand your frustration, but you have no idea why there are so many people at the hospital. And seriously, "home induction" doesn't work....so they were probably meant to go into labor at this time.
I'd love to have a "tax break" and have my baby tonight, but if I asked my doctor to induce me early he'd laugh in my face. And just because I have sex, bounce on an exercise ball, eat spicy food and take castor oil doesn't mean I`ll end up in L&D.
Try to be calm and relax. This is only going to cause more tension and raise your BP if you are stressed out.
So wait until Saturday. I doubt the 3 days will make a difference and they will have cleared the people out by then.
Also, if it's that critical that this induction will "potentially save your daughter's life" I'm sure they will go ahead with a C-section and that solves the labor and delivery issue.
Wow, calm down a bit. Why are those other women in L&D? Because they are in labor! Where else would they be? How dare the hospital admit people in actual labor and have to bump a scheduled induction. Sorry, but the people in labor can't wait, and you can.
If your LO's life was at risk, you would be having a c-section, not an induction.
Scheduled inductions don't trump spontaneous labor. What are you suggesting they do, push aside a women who is currently in labor just so you can get your labor induced?
If if was that much of an emergency for you, why didn't they do an emergency c-section?
I get that you are frustrated, but you are assuming a lot of things that may or may not be true. It sounds like your baby's lungs are not ready. If they were, you would have an outside baby. That said, your Dr would not let you be at home if it were a case of life and death of your baby, he would have you in the hospital in labor.
self-induction techniques do not work if your body is not ready. Try to relax, and keep your body calm until you do get called to go in, and good luck!
Unfortunately its not- depending on the amount of leave time her doctors required.
Granted it can vary state to state with the laws on this type of thing, but employers are only legally allowed to 'hold your job' for a certain amount of weeks which in most states is 12 weeks, before they can dump you from their health insurance and no longer hold your job for you if it causes any undue hardship on the business. It is ridiculous, but unfortunately they can do it.
I was almost placed on bedrest until birth when I was 22 weeks and after being on medical leave for 12 weeks I would have been dumped from my employers insurance, or the option to pay the full out of pocket premium amount in order to keep it through cobra. And legally after that time they would not have to guarantee my position would still be there when I was well enough to come back after I went over the 12 week mark
Luckily I was cleared to go back to work after 2.5 weeks, otherwise that would have been stressful!
