3rd Trimester

I know its fine...just looking for reassurance

So i have my 3rd bad cold of the winter.  My nose is a faucet and i can't sleep.  I've been using the neti pot, drinking hot water, and taking showers/baths.  I just took 1/2 a benadryl to help with the sleeplessness and runny nose.  I did this as well the the last colds.  I called the dr. and they said its fine.  I know benadryl is safe but every time i take it i am worried that i am being a wimp and hurting the baby.  All day tomorrow i will be worried that he's not moving enough etc.

My other problem is sleeping position.  I fall asleep on my side but wake up several times a night on my back. When i wake up i roll over. Sleeping on my back is most comfortable but i know its not the best. Am i harming the baby?

  • dude. it's FINE. I take 2 benedryl a night lately.

Last night I took one just because it helps me sleep.

and no you are not hurting your baby sleeping on your back, You're body will wake you up and you will shift positions before something happens. Sleep that wasy if you're comfy.

I sleep on my back with a pillow under the side of me because flat on my back hurts.

If it still feels good to you go ahead and do it. You can't stand on your sides forever. My hips start to hurt, so I'll sleep on my back/side for a bit.

    You're fine.

  • oh and I took a benedryl the other day right before my NST, Yeah the baby was a sleepy dude, they had to wake him and also do an u/s because he basically still failed the NST.  He was fine though, yes it does make them sleepy, but it won't hurt them, just like it makes you sleepy but does not hurt you.

You have to take care of yourself too, you need to funcation and make it through the day, so do what you need to do.  Don't worry, it will not hurt them.

  • If you are seriously that worried about it then just do not take the benadryl and suffer through it. Your choice.

And you are okay to sleep on your back. I sleep on my back the majority of the night now because my hips hurt when I lay on my sides.

  • I had PUPPS with my first pregnancy and that required taking one or two Benadryl a night for the entirety of my third trimester. My kiddo is just fine- yours will be too. Try not to stress about it.

  • Thanks everyone.

  • I asked my doc about sleeping on my back months ago. She said there's no potential harm to the babies - it just might make YOU feel light-headed. You will instinctively wake up if you need to roll over, though.

  • With my last pregnancy I was on hospital bedrest, they gave me Benedryl every night to help me sleep. It is totally fine. Please don't worry. I have a hard time on my side also, try putting a pillow behind you, that way if you roll onto your back you are still tilted.
