Trying to Get Pregnant

Teachers and timing...

This is more of a whine than anything- We planned on waiting to TTC until March so that the EDD would be later in the school year, but now I'm starting to waver and think we should probably just take a BFP whenever we get one, since we could have great timing and STILL not conceive.

ARGH. I had thought it would be great to try and save MS for the summer when I'm off, but as these months tick by, my resolve is starting to waver. Anyone else in this boat?

Sorry for the whine- I'll be serving cheese later.

Re: Teachers and timing...

  • If timing and planning worked then I'd be KU right now and due in late March.  As you can see, I'm still here.

I'll take a BFP no matter when it comes.

  • I'm a teacher as well.   We started TTC in August hoping to get a BFP quick and then we would be due April/May.  I would then take the rest of the year off and go back in September.  Well, that didn't happen and here we are approaching cycle 5.   There is never going to be perfect timing and MH and I have accepted that.  This baby is going to come when it is ready and we will cross the bridge of how much time I am going to take off when we get there.

    Amen.

Many of us would have kids already if things had worked the way we planned.  For others, the stars align and everything happens exactly they wanted it to.  Just keep it in mind.  For some, it is worth it to wait if bad timing would be inconvenient for you.  I am a teacher too, and I know that tenure and other political things can work against you.  But personally, I want this baby yesterday.

    GL whatever you decide.

  • That's what I'm beginning to think Kdg. I have  a frienemy who timed it and nailed it, so to speak- she also said she would be "DEVASTATED" if she hadn't gotten KU the 1st month they tried. Big Smile

  • I also work in the schools an used to think I wanted to wait until my EDD would be at a certain point in the school year.  My husband told me he thought that was silly and that we should just try and be happy no matter when it happens (or just be happy if it does!)  Smile

I'm totally happy that he convinced me because once I really thought about it, there isn't really a "bad" time when you are on the school calendar (I mean, an early Nov baby would give you 2 extra weeks for winter break, spring baby and you get a week off for spring break...)  Some certain times would be nice because you would get extra time off with the baby, sure, but I decided not to care!

Lots of love to my BFPB, Squishy622 <3

  • DH and I are both teachers. ?It would be nice to be able to pick the best time of year to have a baby and have it work out perfectly. ?Unfortunately it just doesn't work out that way.

We'll take whatever we can get and worry about the rest later on.

  • when we started TTC with my DS, like everyone else we thought getting pg in the summer would lead to a spring baby and I would simply take my maternity leave right into the summer...WRONG, it took us 8 months and we needed help so  MArch it was which lead to an early Xmas present...FYI a December baby is great too...having the holidays off..But any month is a nice month when you have a baby..Good luck

  • With DS1 we purposely started trying in the summer so we could have a baby in the spring and I'd have the rest of the school year off.  We were very lucky that I got pregnant and it worked perfectly.  However, I'm on cycle 8 and at this point I've realized I'll take a BFP no matter when it comes!

  • I feel victim to the whole "teachers and timing pregnancies around school" notion too...

I had this great idea that I would start TTC in July and probably get pregnant in August which would work out perfectly with school and summer break.  Yeah, silly me.  Now I just want a BFP ... and do not care which month it comes in!

  • DH & I are both teachers & would have loved to have a baby in the summer.  That came & went TWICE while we were TTC #1 & has already come & gone while TTC # 2.  The bottom line is that most people aren't able to choose the month they get pregnant.  You have to have perfect timing & luck...I definitely agree that if you are ready for a baby, try & don't worry about the due date.  It will happen at the right time & everything will work out!  :)  Good luck!!

This, almost exactly.  Another teacher and I even had our curriculum map re-drawn to accomodate May maternity leave (something totally do-able with our course).  This works awesome for her, she was lucky enough to get KU in Sept as we "planned"  As for me, I'm just hoping that by May I'm actually pregnant, the only "parents opinion" that I care about anymore is my own.

  • We tried to plan conception in the summer so I'd deliver in the following spring, but that totally did not happen.  I've learned that we'll be happy with a BFP whenever it comes!

  • Sounds like me!  I'm a third year teacher and after this year I will have professional status. Getting pregnant during this school year is NOT the plan! My plan is to go off the pill in March and start TTC in July.  Ideally, I would have an April baby and take the rest of the year off.  I am a big planner, but I am realizing this can only be planned to a certain extent!

  • i am a teacher also and i wanted to try and 'plan' out when i would get PG, but now ill just be happy when i get my BFP...no matter what month it is!

  • At first I was hoping to have a spring/early summer baby, but that didn't work out.  At this point, I will take any month, I just want to get that BFP and have a baby!

  • I started TTC in Aug 2009 with the naive mindset of having perfect timing. I wanted a spring baby. Now, after many months of TTC, I find comfort in my phantom due date each cycle. As others have said, I'll take what I can get.

  • I'm not going to lie, a bfp would have been wonderful school-wise July-Sept but I will gladly welcome a bfp anytime of year. Good luck OP!
