High blood sugar

So after I ate dinner I started getting very shaky and could feel my heart beat through my entire body! So since we have a blood sugar metro I tested myself and my blood sugar was at 208!!!! I tested it again and it was 200. This was about an hour after I ate. I did have my GTT today, so hopefully I will hear something very soon. I know I failed! Is there anything I can do if I feel this way after I eat until I get confirmation and info on how to manage GD?

  • That test can make you a little wacky the same day, so I wouldn't panic quite yet.  What did you eat/drink for dinner?

Well this isntthe first time this has happened...it does almost every day. For dinner I had a steak wrap and some sweet potato fries...I know not healthy, but I couldn't cook today...

Not the healthiest meal, but also not very high in sugar, either - and sweet potato fries are a fairly decent carbohydrate choice.  That kind of meal shouldn't throw your body so out of whack unless you're having GD issues.  Especially if it's happened before, you need to start following (at least loosely until you get confirmation) a GD diet.  You should also watch your fasting levels and see what your baseline is - regardless, though, the GD diet is very healthy and can be beneficial even if you don't have a GD diagnosis.

  • Then I would definitely call your doc tomorrow b/c those numbers are pretty high.  Hope you feel better and find a solution!  I agree that it doesn't hurt to do the GD diet anyways, but getting some more guidance based on your body will help you the most (if you'll need meds or just diet controlled).  GL!
