I don't agree that this man was "protecting everyone on the plane". Do I think the teen likely thought the rules didn't really apply to him and he didn't have to listen? Probably. Do I think the flight attendants should have been alerted that there was a teen unwilling to listen to inflight protocol? Yep.

I have wanted to smack the sh*t out of plenty of teenagers (myself included looking back at some of the crap I did), but this seems a little extreme.
I would say the man has some anger issues.
Yeah that was completely inappropriate. He should have notified a flight attendant and had them handle it.
I want to smack my SIL all the time...she's 14 and makes her dad and my my fiance blush...and they are both truck drivers! Sad thing is she didn't learn it from them, she learned it from her mother!!! There was one day we had taken her to Chicago and DF swears I was going to break down the bathroom door of the hotel room and get her, but to tell you the truth I know she's stronger than me! I have no idea what I would have done with her once I got to her because I am not someone who does stuff like that. She was acting up because the night before we were supposed to leave we had her spend the night with us (we were leaving for Chicago at 7am and knew she wouldn't be up and ready to go if she was at home) and therefore she couldn't go smoke pot with her friends. ugh. We spent so much money and did so much for her and she was just so ungrateful about it all, and I was at my breaking point. I truly regret how I acted, but all I can do from this point on is to try and have more patience with her, and not take her places like that.
Are there teens I've wanted to smack? Absolutely. Was not turning off our cell phone while taxiing in a plane a good reason to get smacked? I really don't think so. I haven't taken many flights but I can tell you on every single one there are at least a half a dozen full grown adults clicking away on their BlackBerrys while the plane is taking off or the second they can grab enough reception as we're landing. If he felt it was such a danger to the passengers he should have alerted the flight attendants.
The jaywalking teenagers from the high school next to my apartment buildings on the other hand need to be hit by a car. Not enough to injure them but enough to knock them on their asses and make them think for a second that one of these days I'm not even going to slow down or leave skid marks when they dart out in front of me. *shakefist*

Things to avoid during pregnancy: Eye contact with cats. Cats will suck the burgeoning life right out of you, using their infamous feline mind-powers. Avert your eyes, and move along.
FACT: 1 in 10 people are said to be a carrier of Listeria. Therefore you should avoid all shopping malls, grocery stores and busy street corners for the duration of your pregnancy. Or microwave anyone you contact until steaming, just to be safe.
Wow. It wasn't his responsibility to stop the teen, that's what flight attendants are for. It's completely inappropriate to go around smacking people.
I really wanted to smack my 14yr old cousin on Christmas though. Her mom had just had a total hysterectomy 1 week prior, and was still walking around in pain, and she kept calling her and telling everyone that her mom was now a man. I mean, WTF?!
