Singleton vs. Multiple betas

I am just wondering if anyone who had betas remembered their numbers from a single to a multiple pregnancy.

Last year I had a single embryo transfer, 18dpo beta was 193, but ended in m/c.  This month I had a 3 embryo transfer, 18 dpo beta was 829.

Curiosity (and mild to moderate fear) are killing me.  I am just surprised to see two betas so different.  I guess I assumed that one person would have similar betas between pregnancies.

The wait until the first u/s may even feel longer than my two week wait...

Re: Singleton vs. Multiple betas

  • congrats!!!

my singleton and twin betas were similar... my first twin beta was 224 and my singleton was 119 I think...which are both in the average range for any type of pregnancy.

I got a BFP at 11dpo with my singleton, and not until 12dpo with the twins --- i was testing every day, feeling that it was going to be twins and thinking that I'd get a BFP earlier with twins - but it went the other way... and was still twins.

you obviously have a good chance for twins+... so who knows!  It all depends on when they implant, how high the beta will be on the day of testing.

Prayers for you for a safe and healthy pregnancy... whatever the outcome- you'll do great and if it's twins or trips or more (if one split!) we are here for you! :)  Let us know how it goes!!

  • They say beta's are only a good indicator of how a pregnancy is progressing, not necessarily of multiples.  Beta base gives the average reported ranges for singletons and multiples.  My 16dpo beta was 643, so going by doubling time it would have been over 1200 at 18dpo (it was around 5000 at 21 dpo).  I am 6 months pg with twins.  I've seen singletons with higher #'s than me and multiples with lower #'s.  The only way you'll know for sure is at your first u/s.

    Congrats on your pregnancy!

  • Mine were higher than that of the average twin PG according to betabase so I suspected there was more than one.  Mine were 990 at 16dpo and 12,212 at 22dpo.

I have seen woman with single have high numbers though and ladies with twins have lowish numbers so as previous posters have said it is not a for sure thing until that u/s!  GL!

  • Gosh, Emerson was an "oops" after a m/c with clomid so, I didn't get the betas with her.

I believe my first beta with the twins 14 dpiui was 118 and the second beta was like 1029 ish.

GL to you.  My first beta with the twins was a year ago this Friday (NYE).  I wish you the best!
