2nd Trimester

What do you snack on?

I have hit the I'm-hungry-every-minute-of-the-day stage. With my last pregnancy that started in the first tri and never ended, but I can tell my body needs more calories now. I usually eat oatmeal or cereal in the morning, along with fruit. It's just not cutting it anymore. I know I don't get enough protein, but I just crave fruit so much it's hard to eat protein. I do eat greek yogurt almost every day, and I always have protein with lunch and dinner, but my snacking isn't always the healthiest. So what do you typically eat during a day?

Re: What do you snack on?

  • Pretty much the same. I tried to eat as healthy as possible: Fruit (fresh and dried), I love greek yogurt with some home-made granola on top with some honey....cheese cubes (sometimes with crackers). I've been keeping pop corn at work to grab it i run out of other things.  And, lately, too many cookies and candies......but, I'm scaling back on that for sure ;)

    • clementimes
    • string cheese
    • almonds
    • pudding
    • chex mix
    • apples

I also drink a ton of water, when it doesnt' give me heartburn.

  • Greek yogurt and string cheese. I'm a vegetarian so I've really had to up my dairy intake to try and get the protein I need. String cheese has 8 grams of protein.

  • string cheese is my easy go to snack
  • My treat of a snack with a protein pack is a peanut butter and nutella sandwich with a small glass of nonfat milk.  I use low calorie whole wheat bread and spread the pb and nutella pretty thin (I didn't with the first pregnancy and I'm really trying to be more aware of how much I'm eating with this one).  Pair it with and ice cold glass of nonfat milk and it's a relatively healthy but oh so yummy treat!
  • Honestly, I don't do a lot of snacking. I've actually lost about 5lbs during the course of this pregnancy so I haven't put on ANY weight.

When I do snack, I snack on string cheese, cereal (cheerios or cinnamon toast crunch) and potato chips (baked).

I'm not big on eating veggies and fruit so what I've tried to do is make fruit smoothies to cover my fruit intake and honestly I just try to suck it up and eat more veggies (spinach, green beans and peas)

  • Outside of my 3 normal meals, I snack on: Granola bars, oatmeal, unsalted nuts, dried cranberries, fruit, cheese, whole grain crackers and the occasional piece of chocolate or cookie for the holidays.

  • string cheese, like the pps, is my go-to snack food. I've been eating a lot more meat in the last week or so... and I'm trying to balance how much I want to eat with how much storage space I've got.

If you need more protein, but you crave fruit, what about protein shakes?  You could get your strawberry/banana/whatever-fruit-you-want, along with ~14g of protein. Make it with greek yogurt for an even bigger bang for your buck!

  • When I was pregnant with DD I took "eating for 2" literally! I'm talking a large pizza to myself, a triple stack from Wendy's everyday. I also gained 40 pounds with that pregnancy and I'd like to avoid eating all that crappy food this time around. I eat pretty much the same as I did before I was pregnant this time. I usually have shredded wheat for breakfast, for a snack I eat reduced fat Cheez Nips, and for lunch it depends on where I'm eating. Yesterday I had a veggie burger from BK with no cheese and no maynaise, just tomato and lettuce. I really really like Popchips because they have a savory flavor but only 4 grams of fat. I'm not a potato chip fan because the grease grosses me out, but I really enjoy Popchips.
  • I have been snacking constantly too!  This past week has been nothing but food, food and more food.  I can tell that I need to start getting more calories now.  I normally eat clementines, bananas, apples, crackers and hummus, baby carrots, celery and peanut butter, avocados, cereal, yogurt, granola bars, cookies and pizzelles lately, lean pockets, those little microwave burritos (I know they're not good for you but they are just the right size and seem to fill me up longer than fruit does), tortillas with cheese, and pretzels.  Then I rotate between all of those.
  • Cheese and crackers, fat free flavored cream cheese on crackers, green pepper sticks and cucumbers with ranch dressing, chocolate milk, turkey BLT.

  • I eat lots of almonds throughout the day, and they have some protein. I still get nauseous sometimes, so I eat stuff like tortilla chips or pretzels, because they seem to help the nausea. I've also been eating little cups of applesauce or pudding at work, and I got some string cheese to start taking with me too.

Even with my constant snacking, I still start to feel nasty before lunch time! There's no substitute for an actual meal (for me anyway)!!
